Step By Step Instructions

Step 1. Melt the unsalted butter and cinnamon mixture. Get out a small saucepan, add the water, butter, cinnamon and salt. Stir to combine and bring the mixture to a boil. Once it boils, reduce the heat to low.

Step 2. Next, gradually add the flour to the mixture and stir with a wooden spoon. Do this slowly until a ball has been formed. Then remove the saucepan from the heat and cool for 5 minutes.

Step 3. Then add the eggs into the mixture one at a time.

Step 4. Stir until combined.

Step 5. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Then, attach a large star tip to a piping bag and spoon the dough mixture into the piping bag. Pipe dough into 3 to 4-inch long strips. Then place the baking sheet in the freezer for 30 minutes.

Step 6. Finally, remove the frozen churros from the baking sheet and place them in the air fryer basket in batches. Air Fry at 375 degrees for 10-12 minutes.

Step 7. Mix together the cinnamon and sugar coating in a small bowl. Next, toss the churros in the cinnamon sugar mixture while they are still warm. This should be done right away so the mixture adhered to the churros.

Step 8. Serve warm and enjoy.

Storage
Room Temperature:
Air fryer churros are best enjoyed fresh, but leftovers can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. Keep them in a cool, dry place to prevent sogginess.
Reheating:
To bring back their crisp texture, reheat churros in the air fryer at 350°F for 3–4 minutes. This helps them regain that just-fried crunch without overcooking.
Freezing:
You can freeze cooked churros. Let them cool completely, then store in a freezer-safe bag or container for up to 2 months. Reheat directly from frozen in the air fryer at 350°F for 5–6 minutes, or until heated
Can You Make In Advance?
Prepare the Dough Ahead:
You can make the churro dough up to 1 day in advance. Once prepared, cover tightly and refrigerate. When ready to cook, let it sit at room temperature for about 15–20 minutes so it’s easier to pipe.
Pipe and Freeze (Uncooked):
Pipe the churros onto a parchment-lined baking sheet and freeze until solid. Then transfer them to a freezer-safe bag. When you’re ready to air fry, cook straight from frozen. Just add a couple extra minutes to the cooking time.
Expert Tips
- Use a star piping tip. A large star tip helps give churros their signature ridged shape, which not only looks authentic but also helps hold more cinnamon sugar.
- No piping bag? No problem. If you don’t have a piping bag, use a sturdy zip-top bag with a corner snipped off. It won’t be as precise, but it still works in a pinch.
- Freeze before air frying. Always freeze the piped churros for at least 30 minutes before cooking. This helps them keep their shape and prevents them from spreading too much in the air fryer.
- Don’t overcrowd the air fryer. Leave space between each churro in the air fryer basket. Proper air circulation is key to getting that golden, crispy exterior.
- Coat immediately in cinnamon sugar. As soon as the churros come out of the air fryer, roll them in your cinnamon sugar mixture while they’re still hot. This ensures the coating sticks perfectly.
- Serve warm. Air fryer churros are best enjoyed fresh and warm, when they’re crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. They don’t store particularly well, so plan to enjoy them the same day if possible.
