Candy Cane Sleighs make the best Christmas candy craft. From classroom activities to fun things to do at home, this is the perfect idea.

My kids and I have been making DIY Candy Cane Sleighs for years. They love how easy it is to make a candy sled for gifts and more.

It’s one of our annual traditions just like Christmas Coal Fudge and Candy Cane Cookies.

What is a Candy Sleigh DIY?

With just a few candy bars, wrapping paper and decorations, anyone can easily make a chocolate sleigh.

It is easy enough for kids to help and would make a fun classroom activity. You just wrap the candy bars to resemble gifts and attach them to the candy canes.

It comes together to look like a sleigh full of gifts. Family and friends will love this.

How to make candy cane sleighs:

Chocolate bars wrapped in gift paper.

Step 1. Wrap all of the mini candy bars with wrapping paper and tape. This makes it look so fun and festive. The “gifts” look adorable on the sleigh.

Wrapped chocolate stacked on top of each other.

Step 2. Next, use a hot glue gun to glue the mini chocolate bars on top of the kit kat bar. Do not use much hot glue on top of the kitkat or you risk melting the chocolate or messing up the wrapping paper. Another idea is to use glue dots on the base of your sleigh.

Step 3. Glue 2 of the candy canes to the bottom of the kitkat. You don’t need much glue so use it sparingly.

Ribbon and bow added to sleigh.

Step 4. Then wrap ribbon around the sleigh. We used thin inexpensive ribbon, but you can use any type you have or want to buy. Top with a mini bow for the final touch.

What candy to use?

We used Kit Kat bars because the width is perfect to make the sleighs. However, feel free to substitute this for any similar sized candy bar.

As far as the mini candy bars, just use your favorite types. You can pick up a bag of fun size candy bars and have a variety of your favorite candy.

Also, we used traditional candy canes but you can easily use other colors or flavors. I would just suggest coordinating the wrapping paper to the color of the candy canes used.

Tips for Candy Sleighs

  • Assembly. Double sided tape, glue dots and hot glue will all work as options for assembling these sleighs. We used low temperature hot glue.

You only need a few dots as you do not want to mess up the wrapping or melt the chocolate. If you are doing this as a craft activity for younger children, I would suggest double sided tape or glue dots.
  • Chocolate. Feel free to use any type you like. As long as it is rectangle and small squares, it will fit nicely stacked on the sleigh.
  • Candy Canes. Switch things up and use flavored or different colors of candy canes. I would coordinate the wrapping paper and ribbon to the candy canes. This will just make it look amazing.
  • Santa. This is optional and we didn’t do it this time. However, it is fun to get a chocolate Santa and glue it to the front of the sleigh. It will look like he is driving it.
