Ingredients for Christmas Coal Fudge.
  • White Chocolate Chips. I like to use Ghirardelli, but any good quality chocolate is great.
  • Sweetened Condensed Milk. Makes the fudge so rich.
  • Unsalted Butter. Always use real butter.
  • Vanilla Extract. Pure vanilla extract is always best.
  • Black Gel Food Coloring. Gel food coloring is best.
  • Black Sprinkles or Sanding Sugar. This is for topping.

Substitutions and Additions

  • Chocolate. Instead of white chocolate chips, you can use white baking chocolate or almond bark.
  • Dark Chocolate. You can also use dark chocolate if you do not want to use black food coloring or prefer to use less.
  • Flavoring. Swap the vanilla extract for peppermint extract for a mint flavor.
  • Sea Salt. Sprinkle sea salt on top of the fudge. This is an easy way to cut down on the sweetness.

Tips for Success

  • Be precise with food coloring. You need to use 2 to 3 drops until the fudge is the desired color. If you use too little, it will look grey instead of have the black color.
  • Prepare the pan. Line the baking pan with parchment paper so that it will be easy to lift out and cut.
  • Sweetened Condensed Milk is a must. The fudge gets its sweetness and creaminess from this. Don’t confuse it with evaporated milk.
