Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make Cherry Dump Cake in advance?

Since we prefer the cherry dump cake served warm, we do not recommend baking in advance. If you prefer you can go and layer the ingredients and then ready to bake top with the melted butter.
But since this recipe is so easy to make, I would recommend baking it when you are ready to serve.

How do you know when Dump Cake is done?

Dump cakes do not contain any raw eggs. All the ingredients are cooked so you are basically heating everything up. Topped with the melted butter and mixed with the dry cake mix to make the perfect crust.
I usually check the dump cake around 40 minutes and you want your crust to be a golden brown. I like my crust to be very crispy so I tend to cook a little longer.

Can you Freeze Dump Cakes?

Yes, you can freeze cherry dump cake. If you plan on freezing the leftovers, place in a freezer safe container and cover with foil. It will stay fresh for up to 3 months. Thaw in the fridge overnight when ready to serve.

How to Store Leftovers?

We recommend refrigerating the leftovers. Wrap dump cake pan in plastic wrap or place in individual portions inside an airtight container. Place in the refrigerator. Refrigerating the leftovers will allow the dump cake to last a longer.

How to Reheat Leftovers?

Since we like this Cherry Dump Cake warm, we will heat it in the microwave and top with ice cream. You can also reheat in the oven at a temperature of 350 degrees for about 15 minutes. However, the cake is also good at room temperature.

Expert Tips

  • Butter – Make sure to use salted butter and melt it. This recipe calls for melted butter on top. Other dump cakes call for the butter to be slice.
  • Sugar – When making this cake, there is no need to add any additional sugar. If you want it sweeter, you can add a little to the top of the cherry pie filling.
  • Slow Cooker – You can make this recipe in the slow cooker if you prefer. Place ingredients in crock pot and cook for 2 hours on high.
