Chocolate Cherry Dump Cake Recipe:

We love dessert around here but rarely have a lot of extra time to bake. This super easy chocolate cherry dump cake is the perfect solution for dessert when you need something sweet without much work.

The devil’s food cake mix is so rich and delicious with the cherry pie filling. Combining chocolate and cherry makes the most amazing dessert. And since you only need 3 ingredients, you can literally make this dessert any time you want.

Company coming? Make this dessert. Need a dessert to take to a potluck? Make this dessert.

It is so easy and only takes a few minutes to put together. You are going to love it and you might also like one of our other cake mix desserts!

The best Chocolate dessert!

We like to serve this cake warm and top with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The ice cream starts to melt into the chocolate and cherry pie filling for such a delicious and out of this world treat!

You can also top with whipped topping and that is so tasty as well. This cake is amazing either way!

Can you make a Crock Pot dump cake?

Yes, you can! Crock Pot dump cake is the perfect way to make a dessert if you are not in the mood to heat up your oven. I also like making it in the crock pot, as I can go ahead and prepare dessert even before dinner starts.

The dessert is cooking as we are eating dinner and it is ready when we are. You still following the directions as if you are baking it.

Crock Pot dump cake comes out perfectly and the best part is you can keep your crock pot on warm so your second helping is just as good as your first.

Ingredients:

  • Cherry Pie Filling
  • Devil’s Food Cake Mix
  • Butter

That is all you need to make this amazing dessert!

Do you prepare the cake mix first?

This is a very common question when preparing the dump cake. I know that anytime you are a making a cake mix dessert, you prepare as directed on the box. In the case of dump cakes recipes, you do not prepare the cake mix first.

This is my favorite part about dump cakes, you literally just dump the ingredients in a pan. The combination of the ingredients makes the best dessert with very little ingredients and process.

Topping ideas:

This rich chocolate dessert is great by it self. But we are also fans of adding toppings to it as well.

You can even do a dump cake topping bar. My kids love all the different options. Here are some of our favorites:

  • Vanilla ice cream
  • Try different ice cream flavors. Chocolate fans might like chocolate for double the chocolate flavor!
  • Whipped cream
  • Drizzle Caramel sauce or hot fudge sauce on top. Our favorite is combining the two.
  • If you want top with nuts, pecans or walnuts are great.

My favorite topping!

My favorite is a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a generous drizzle of hot fudge sauce. It is taste amazing.

This is such an easy dessert but one of our favorites.  I just love recipes that are so easy but turn out so decadent and delicious.

You truly can enjoy a wonderful dessert with little to no work. Just another example that it does not have to be complicated or expensive to be amazing!

  • Try yellow cake mix instead of devil’s food. You can also try regular chocolate cake mix in this recipe.
  • White Cake mix is another good substitute.
  • Use other pie fillings such as apple, blackberry, strawberry, blueberry and more!
  • Add chocolate chips to the cake mix.
  • You can also add in a few drops of almond extract.
