How To Make Chocolate Covered Strawberries

  • Step 1 – First, line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  • Step 2 – Prepare all of the toppings you are using.  I like to get everything sorted in cups or bowls, so everything is ready to go!
  • Step 3 – Clean strawberries and make sure they are completely dry. I like to lay them on a paper towel to allow them to dry.

Step 4. Add Almond Bark to a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave chocolate starting with 1-minute intervals and then stir. Continue to heat for 20-30 second intervals until melted. You can also use a double boiler. Just use what you prefer.

Step 5. Dip strawberries in melted chocolate and remove excess chocolate after dipping the strawberries. Hold by the stem or green leaves to dip. You can also insert a toothpick for dipping. Immediately add sprinkles. Place on parchment covered baking sheet.

  • Step 6. For drizzling the chocolate, melt Almond Bark in the microwave. Then fill a plastic squeeze bottle to drizzle the strawberries. Allow the chocolate to set for about 30 minutes.

Topping Ideas

  • Sprinkles: Use chocolate, white, or colored sprinkles to match any occasion or holiday.
  • Drizzled Chocolate: Drizzle contrasting chocolate (white over dark, or milk over white) for a decorative effect.
  • Chopped Nuts: Almonds, pecans, or pistachios add crunch and flavor.
  • Coconut Flakes: Toasted or plain coconut gives a tropical twist.
  • Crushed Cookies: Oreo crumbs or graham cracker crumbs create a fun, textured coating.
  • Sea Salt: A light sprinkle of flaky sea salt enhances the chocolate’s richness.
  • Edible Glitter or Gold Dust: Perfect for a glamorous or festive presentation.
  • Mini Chocolate Chips or Candy Pieces: Add extra chocolate or colorful candy for a playful look.

Pro Tips

  • Almond Bark Amount: Use about 3–4 squares of almond bark to coat 10–12 strawberries. Adjust as needed depending on berry size.
  • Choose Quality Strawberries: Pick firm, ripe strawberries for the best flavor and appearance. Wash and dry them thoroughly—any moisture will prevent the chocolate from sticking.
  • Room Temperature Berries: Let strawberries sit at room temperature before dipping to avoid condensation and help the chocolate adhere evenly.
  • Melt Chocolate Carefully: Melt the chocolate slowly to avoid burning. Overheating can make it grainy or bitter.
  • Double Boiler Option: If you prefer, melt the chocolate using a double boiler for more control and a smoother finish.
  • Avoid Overcrowding: Dip and place the strawberries on parchment paper, leaving space between each one to prevent sticking together.
  • Decorate Quickly: If adding sprinkles, nuts, or drizzle, do it immediately after dipping before the chocolate sets.
  • Set Properly: Allow dipped strawberries to fully set at room temperature or in the fridge for a firmer coating.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to Melt Chocolate?

Place the almond bark in a microwave safe bowl. Begin with heating the chocolate for 1 minute. Then stir chocolate and place back into the microwave. Continue heating chocolate in 30 seconds intervals and stirring after.

Stirring chocolate allows for it to melt faster and smoother. Make sure to not heat the chocolate for to long as it could burn.

How long do Chocolate Covered Strawberries last?

Chocolate Strawberries will last for several days but are best eaten within a day or so. I try to always serve the chocolate covered strawberries within 2 days of making them.

Make sure you store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Use parchment paper to separate the layers.

How to Decorate?

Decorating chocolate covered strawberries is easy and fun to do. They can be drizzled with white chocolate, milk chocolate or dark chocolate. Drizzle the melted chocolate over the top for fun designs.

How do I choose the Best Strawberries?

You want to select strawberries that are ripe and bright red so they will be full of flavor. Just make sure the strawberries are not too ripe as you do not want mushy strawberries.

I usually select strawberries that are large which makes them easier to dip into the chocolate.

Can I Use Frozen Strawberries?

No! You need to use fresh strawberries. Frozen strawberries will not work, and you will have a big mess once they unthaw.

How to Wash and Dry Strawberries?

One big tip is to make sure the strawberries are completely dry before dipping in chocolate. Don’t wash them and then immediately try to dip them in chocolate. The moisture will make it difficult for the chocolate to stick.

I prefer to wash my strawberries, pat them dry and then allow them to sit and dry completely.  This ensures the moisture is eliminated.

Storage

Refrigerator: Store the chocolate-covered strawberries in an airtight container lined with parchment paper. Keep them in the fridge for up to 2–3 days.

Avoid Moisture: Do not wash strawberries after dipping. Moisture can make the chocolate streak or become soft.

Layering Tip: If storing multiple layers, place parchment paper between layers to prevent sticking.

Room Temperature Serving: For the best texture and flavor, let the strawberries sit at room temperature for 10–15 minutes before serving.

Do Not Freeze: Freezing can cause the chocolate to crack and the strawberries to become mushy.
