Why We Love This Recipe
It is absolutely loaded with chocolate. If you love Chocolate Desserts, this will be one of your favorites. I have been making it for years and it never disappoints.
Anyone can easily make this for parties without a ton of expense or time.
Ingredients
- Brownie Fudge Mix. You can use any brand of boxed brownies you like. Just make the brownies in a 9X13 pan. You will also need the ingredients to prepare the brownies based on the package instructions. Another option is to make Easy One Bowl Brownies.
- Cream Cheese. Softened at room temperature so that it’s easy to combine.
- Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips. Use a good brand of chocolate for the best taste and texture. I like Ghirardelli chocolate. You can also use milk chocolate, dark chocolate or white chocolate if you prefer that flavor.
- Shortening. This is needed to thin the chocolate and make it easier to dip.
- Chocolate Sprinkles. You don’t have to add these, but we love the extra touch of chocolate.

Step By Step Instructions
- Step 1. Prepare the brownie batter and bake the box brownie mix based on the package instructions. Then allow them to cool completely at room temperature.
Step 2. Once cool, remove the brownies from the pan and discard the outside layer from the brownies. Crumble the remaining brownies into a large bowl and mash together.
Step 3. Next, add the cream cheese and stir until combined. It’s ok for the mixture to be thick.
Step 4. Prepare a baking sheet and line with parchment paper. Use a small cookie scoop to shape the mixture into balls. Freeze for 30 minutes.
Step 5. Get out a microwave safe bowl. Heat the chocolate chips and the shortening in 30 second intervals. Stir after each one until melted.
Step 6. Then dip each brownie ball into the melted chocolate with a fork. Make sure to cover the brownie ball completely. Allow the excess melted candy to drip off back into the bowl.
Step 7. Finally, put the coated balls back on the baking sheet. Top immediately with the sprinkles. Freeze for 10-15 minutes until set.
Storage
Store any leftovers in an airtight container or bag up to 1 week. You can also freeze the leftovers. They will last up to 1 month in the freezer.
Pro Tips
- Use a cookie scoop. I recommend using a cookie scoop when forming the brownie balls. This will ensure that they are all about the same size.
- Remove excess chocolate. Gently tapping the fork on the edge of the bowl is the best way to remove any excess chocolate from the coated brownie ball.
- Remove the edges of the brownies. You want the mixture to be soft. It’s important to not use the outer pieces.
- Topping. Instead of using sprinkles, try adding brownie crumbs on top or chopped nuts.
