Ingredients for Chocolate dipped sugar cookies.

Ingredients:

  • Butter, softened at room temperature
  • Granulated Sugar
  • Large Eggs, at room temperature
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Milk
  • All Purpose Flour
  • Baking Powder
  • Salt
  • Chocolate Melting Wafers
  • Sprinkles

How to make chocolate dipped sugar cookies:

  • Combine the butter and sugar. Beat together the butter and sugar with a hand held mixer or a stand up mixer.  Then add in the eggs, milk and vanilla extract.

Mix until combined. The ingredients should be room temperature as they will combine easier and result in a smoother texture.
  • Get out a separate large bowl. Whisk together the dry ingredients: add flour, baking powder and salt.
  • Stir in the flour mixture. Then gradually stir the dry ingredients (flour mixture) into the wet ingredients (butter mixture) until a dough forms.
  • Refrigerate the dough. Cover and chill the dough for at least 2 hours.
  • Warm up the oven. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Form the cookies. Use a teaspoon or cookie scoop to drop the cookie dough onto a lined baking sheet into round balls.  Flatten the cookie dough out slightly by using the bottom of a glass dipped in granulated sugar.
  • Bake the cookies. Then bake for 12-15 minutes until the cookies are slightly golden brown.  Make sure to rotate the baking sheets halfway through the baking time to ensure that the cookies are baked evenly.
  • Allow to cool. Let the cookies sit on the baking sheet for 5 minutes.  Then move the cookies to cooling racks to cool completely.
  • Melt the chocolate. Then place the melting chocolate wafers in a microwave safe bowl, heat in 30 second intervals, stirring after each interval until the chocolate is melted and creamy.
  • Dip in chocolate. Dip half of the cookies in the melted chocolate.
  • Add the sprinkles. Place the cookies on parchment paper or wax paper.  Top with the sprinkles and allow the cookies to dry completely.
  • Enjoy the cookies and serve. Then the cookies are ready to eat!

You can store any leftover cookies at room temperature in an airtight container for up to 1 week.  Keep a piece of bread in the container with the cookies to keep them soft.

How to freeze cookies:

Allow the cookies to cool completely. Place in a freezer container.

Separate the layers with wax paper to keep the cookies from sticking.

How do you know when sugar cookies are done?

You do not want to over bake the cookies.  They should be slightly golden brown and they will continue to set once they cool.

Once they start to turn a hint of brown, they are ready.

How do you melt chocolate for cookie decorating?

It needs to be melted in intervals of 30 seconds. This will prevent it from burning as you can keep a check on it and stir the chocolate.

Do not skip this step or you can easily overcook the chocolate and make it unusable.

Variation ideas:

  • Sprinkles. You can use any sprinkles you like. Feel free to change these for holidays and different occasions. They are so pretty to make all year long.
  • Nuts. Coat the cookies in chopped nut instead of sprinkles. We like chopped pecans or walnuts.
  • Chocolate. We love to use white chocolate to dip the cookies instead of milk chocolate. It is a tasty flavor change.
