Expert Tips

  • Use a Cookie Scoop: A cookie scoop ensures all dough balls are uniform in size, so they bake evenly.
  • Cool on a Rack: Transfer cookies to a cooling rack to cool completely before serving or decorating.
  • Line the Baking Sheet: Use parchment paper or a silicone baking mat for easy cleanup and to prevent sticking.
  • Roll in Sprinkles: After forming dough balls, roll them in sprinkles to ensure each cookie is fully covered.
  • Don’t Overbake: Bake just until the edges are set; cookies will stay soft and tender.
  • Even Spacing: Leave enough space between cookies on the baking sheet to allow for spreading.
  • Storage Tip: Once cooled, store in an airtight container to keep cookies soft and fresh.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you add sprinkles before baking?

Yes, for these cookies we add them in after rolling the cookie batter into balls. This makes sure that the entire cookie is covered in sprinkles. It allows for the sprinkles to cook into the cake mix batter.

How do you get the sprinkles to stick?

Rolling the cake mix batter into balls and then rolling into the sprinkles makes the stick. Make sure to generously coat the cookies in the sprinkles to ensure the entire cookie is coated.

How to store the cookies?

Place cookie in a airtight container at room temperatures. They will last about a week if stored properly.

How to freeze the cookies?

Make sure that the cookies cool completely before freezing. Place the cooked cookies on a baking sheet. Then place it in the freezer for at least 1 hour.

After this time, move them to a freezer bag for up to 2-3 months.
Freezing the cookie individually for an hour, allows you to take out small serving without having to defrost a large portion.

Defrost them at room temperature and then they are ready to enjoy! I love just pulling a few out at dinner time and they’re usually defrosted out in time for dessert.
