Ingredients

Ingredients for Cinnamon roll apple pie. - cinnamon rolls, apples, lemon juice, cinnamon.
  • Cinnamon Rolls. You can also use homemade cinnamon rolls if you prefer.
  • Granny Smith Apples. Peel and cut into thin slices. You can also use canned apple pie filling instead. This is an easy substitute instead of fresh apples if you don’t have extra time to make your own homemade apple pie filling.
  • Lemon Juice. I prefer to use fresh lemon juice.
  • Ground Cinnamon. Feel free to adjust the cinnamon based on preference.

How to Make Apple Pie With Cinnamon Rolls

  • Step 1. Heat oven to 350 degrees. Then spray a pie pan with cooking spray.

Step 2. Next, open the cinnamon rolls and set the icing aside. Cut each of the cinnamon rolls in half so that you make 2 thinner cinnamon rolls. Then sprinkle flour on a cutting board and use a rolling pin to roll out the cinnamon rolls.

Step 3. Place the cinnamon rolls in the bottom of the pie plate to make the cinnamon roll crust. Then bake the cinnamon roll pie crust for 5-7 minutes.

Step 4. Mix together the apples and lemon juice in a large bowl. Then add in the sugar, salt, cinnamon and cornstarch.

Step 5. Then add the apple mixture and layer the rest of the cinnamon rolls on top of the whole pie. Pinch together any holes and gently press the crust onto the bottom layer of cinnamon roll so that they are pinched together.

Step 6. Cover with aluminum foil and bake the cinnamon rolls until golden brown.  Then remove the foil and bake for 10 more minutes to brown the top of the pie. Allow to cool and drizzle with glaze.

Step 7. Then the pie is ready to slice, serve warm and enjoy!

Pro Tips

  • Cinnamon Rolls. This recipe uses store bought canned cinnamon rolls. We used the original Pillsbury for this recipe and it worked great. However, feel free to use store brand or what you prefer.
  • Apples. You can use a combination of apples, but we prefer Granny Smith because it is a tart apple. They hold up well to baking and provide the perfect amount of tartness. It balances out the sweetness of the cinnamon rolls. You can also use honeycrisp apples.
  • Allow to cool. Make sure to let the pie cool before adding the icing.

Ingredients

  • 2 cans Cinnamon Rolls 8 count each
  • 5 Granny Smith Apples peeled and sliced into thin slices
  • 1 Tbsp Lemon Juice
  • 1/2 cup Sugar
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Ground Cinnamon
  • 1 Tbsp Cornstarch

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and spray a pie pan with a non-stick cooking spray.
  • Open the cinnamon rolls and set the icing aside. Then cut each of the cinnamon rolls in half (to make 2 thinner cinnamon rolls). Sprinkle flour on a working surface and use a rolling pin to roll out the cinnamon rolls with flour to make them thin.
  • Layer the bottom of the pie pan with the cinnamon rolls to create the bottom of the pie. Then bake for 5-7 minutes to cook the bottom crust slightly.
  • Place the apples and lemon juice in a large bowl and toss to make sure that the apples are coated in the lemon juice. Then add in the sugar, salt, cinnamon and cornstarch. Toss the apples to coat them with these ingredients.
  • Then add the apple mixture in the pie pan and layer the rest of the cinnamon rolls on top of the pie to make the top crust. Pinch together any holes and gently press the crust onto the bottom layer of cinnamon roll so that they are pinched together.
  • Cover the entire pie with foil and bake for 35 more minutes. Then remove the foil and bake for 10 more minutes to brown the top of the pie.
  • Allow the pie to cool at room temperature.
  • Once the pie is cool, drizzle with the frosting that came in the cinnamon roll packages.
  • Then the pie is ready to slice, serve and enjoy!
