FAQs

How to store?

These should be stored at room temperature and not in the refrigerator. They are best left to cool at room temperature so that the remain gooey and delicious.

Store in an airtight container and they should last for up to 1 week. We suggest placing wax paper in between the rice krispie treats to prevent them from sticking.

How long will they last?

If stored properly, they should last about a week.

Can you freeze rice krispies?

Rice krispie treats can be frozen up to 4 to 6 months. Flash freeze them first on a baking sheet for 1 to 2 hours.

This will prevent the icing on top from becoming damaged in the freezer. Then wrap them in plastic wrap and place inside a freezer bag or container.

Allow to thaw when ready to serve. Keep in mind that the texture will change slightly in the freezer.

Why are my rice krispie treats hard?

This is often a result of cooking the butter and marshmallow mixture over high heat. While it takes longer, low heat is best and will result in soft and gooey rice krispie treats.

Why are my rice krispie treats falling apart?

If your rice krispie treats are too soft and falling part, there are a couple of culprits. This might be the result of using too many marshmallows or adding too much cereal.

Another reason could be not pressing the mixture firmly into the pan before they cool. You don’t want to press down too hard but firmly enough so they stick together.

Recipe tips

  • Spray your hands with cooking spray. If the mixture is sticky when making the football shapes, spray your hands with a non-stick cooking spray or oil olive. This will keep the mixture from sticking to your fingers.
  • Fresh marshmallows. Use fresh marshmallows in this recipe for best results and texture in the final product.
  • Topping. If you do not have a piping bag, place the white chocolate inside a ziploc bag. Snip the corner and pipe the design on each football.
  • Melt in intervals. The chocolate needs to be melted in 30 second intervals for best results. Stir between each interval. This will prevent overcooking and burning the mixture.
  • Frosting. Top with green frosting for another idea. Then pipe the design on top with white chocolate.
  • Precise measurements. Don’t be tempted to add extra marshmallows, butter or cereal. While it is easy to make rice krispie treats, measurements must be precise for the best outcome. The correct ratio of ingredients will make the best recipe.
