FAQs

How to store?

These should be stored at room temperature and not in the refrigerator. They are best left to cool at room temperature so that the remain gooey and delicious.

Store in an airtight container and they should last for up to 1 week. We suggest placing wax paper in between the rice krispie treats to prevent them from sticking.

How long will they last?

If stored properly, they should last about a week.

Can you freeze rice krispies?

Rice krispie treats can be frozen up to 4 to 6 months. Flash freeze them first on a baking sheet for 1 to 2 hours.

This will prevent the icing on top from becoming damaged in the freezer. Then wrap them in plastic wrap and place inside a freezer bag or container.

Allow to thaw when ready to serve. Keep in mind that the texture will change slightly in the freezer.

Why are my rice krispie treats hard?

This is often a result of cooking the butter and marshmallow mixture over high heat. While it takes longer, low heat is best and will result in soft and gooey rice krispie treats.

Why are my rice krispie treats falling apart?

If your rice krispie treats are too soft and falling part, there are a couple of culprits. This might be the result of using too many marshmallows or adding too much cereal.

Another reason could be not pressing the mixture firmly into the pan before they cool. You don’t want to press down too hard but firmly enough so they stick together.

Tips For The Best Cocoa Rice Krispie Treats

  • Use fresh marshmallows – Fresh mini marshmallows melt smoothly and create the softest, chewiest treats.
  • Melt over low heat – Gently heating the butter and marshmallows prevents burning and keeps the mixture creamy.
  • Stir cereal in gently – Fold in the Cocoa Rice Krispie cereal carefully to maintain its crunchy texture.
  • Don’t press too firmly – Lightly press the mixture into the pan so the treats stay soft instead of dense.
  • Cool before decorating – Allow treats to fully set before adding white chocolate for clean lines and smooth coverage.
  • Microwave chocolate slowly – Heat white chocolate wafers in short bursts, stirring often to avoid seizing.
  • Grease your knife – A lightly greased knife makes cutting neat squares quick and easy.
  • Store properly – Keep treats in an airtight container to maintain freshness and chewiness.
