Variations

  • Substitution for Honey – We love the sweetness of the honey, but you can also use brown sugar or maple syrup.
  • Oil Options – You can use Coconut oil or butter to pan fry the bananas. I prefer butter over hot oil.
  • Air fryer method – If you prefer to use the air fryer instead of the stove, you can. First, melt the butter using the microwave and add the seasonings. Coat the bananas. Place in the air fryer basket for 4 minutes at 400 degrees in a single layer.
  • Add Nuts – Feel free to top the fried bananas with chopped peanuts or sliced almonds.

Pro Tips

  • Firm Bananas – This recipe is best with firm bananas. You will want to use firm bananas for this recipe so they do not get too mushy when frying them.  You want them to be just ripe. Don’t use overripe bananas.
  • Cooking Bananas – The bananas should look golden brown and caramelized.  However, watch them closely as they cook so they do not burn with excessive brown spots.
  • Heat Skillet – Before placing the slice bananas in the skillet, make sure to preheated and add the oil. This gives the bananas the best texture with a soft center.
