Variations

  • You can easily make these popsicles with your favorite type of jello. Feel free to try new flavors or even combine flavors.
  • If you do not have popsicle molds, use paper cups instead to make jello pops. The small Dixie cups would be perfect to make popsicles.

Once you pour the jello mixture into the cups, place popsicle sticks into each one. When ready to serve, tear away the paper cups from the popsicle.
  • Make Jello and Kool Aid popsicles. Simply add a packet of unsweetened Kool Aid to the boiling water at the same time you add the jello. Stir and combine as normal.
  • You can add ice cream to the recipe to make a creamier treat. Just allow the jello mixture to cool before adding the ice cream layer.
  • Try adding fruit to the popsicle mixture. This is an easy way to sneak in more fruit in your child’s diet. Just make sure to use coordinating items.

For example, put strawberries with strawberry jello. I would also dice the fruit into small pieces.
  • Layer different flavors. You can try using multiple combinations of jello in these popsicles.

Just make sure to allow them time to slightly set in the freezer between layers. This will ensure each layer is defined. This would be fun for a party or to match a theme.

How to make popsicles with jello

Step 3. Pour into popsicle molds. Add the popsicle sticks. Freeze for at least 4 hours but overnight is preferred. If you make these at bedtime, you can have popsicles ready for the next day.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to remove from the mold?

When ready to enjoy them, run the popsicle mold under warm water. This should loosen them from the mold easily.

Do not use hot water or you risk melting the popsicle. Remove and enjoy this treat.

How to store?

I recommend removing from the mold and storing inside a freezer bag or container. Often the molds for ice pops are not airtight. They will remain fresher if kept inside an airtight container.

Place wax paper in between the popsicles so they don’t stick to each other. This makes it much easier to grab one when ready to eat.

Another reason I prefer removing from the molds is for easy access. Children can easily grab one for a snack or treat. It is simpler than having to remove from the mold every time.

How long do jello popsicles last?

These homemade popsicles will last in the freezer for 6 to 9 months.ย ย Just make sure to store them properly to maximize freshness.

Can you use sugar free jello?

Yes, sugar free jello is an easy and tasty substitute in this recipe. If you are trying to reduce sugar and make this healthier, this is an easy option instead of regular jello.

This is also a great way to enjoy a treat without all the sugar. The texture is slightly different with sugar free jello but still delicious.

It is a little more firm using sugar free jello. However, it is very flavorful and a great treat.
