Ingredients

Ingredients for recipe: water, sugar, lemon juice
  • Fresh Lemon Juice – Provides bright, tangy citrus flavor that makes the popsicles refreshing and zesty.
  • Sugar – Balances the tartness of the lemon juice and adds just the right amount of sweetness.
  • Cold Water – Dilutes the lemon juice and sugar, creating the perfect consistency for freezing into popsicles.

Variations

  • Blueberries – Add a handful of fresh blueberries to each mold for a pop of color and extra flavor.
  • Lemon Slices or Zest – Place thin lemon slices in the molds for a pretty presentation, or add a bit of lemon zest to the mixture for extra citrusy aroma.
  • Honey and Water – Substitute honey for sugar and mix with water for a natural, lightly sweetened version of the popsicles.
  • Mint Infusion – Add a few fresh mint leaves to each mold for a refreshing twist.
  • Berry Lemon Mix – Combine other berries like fresh raspberries or strawberries with the lemon mixture for colorful, fruity popsicles.
  • Sparkling Lemon Pops – Replace some of the water with sparkling water just before freezing for a fizzy, fun version.

Step By Step Instructions

Lemon juice in a cup.

Step 1. Juice the lemons. You can squeeze them by hand or use a citrus juicer if you have one. Either way is fine. Just make sure to remove any seeds from the juice.

Sugar added to measuring cup.

Step 2. Combine the fresh squeezed lemon juice and sugar. Just whisk these together in a small bowl to make a syrup.  You can also use a small saucepan to blend these until completely dissolved over low heat. Just make sure to allow to completely cool before placing in the molds if using a saucepan. Combine with water.

Step 3. Once everything is blended, pour the mixture into popsicle molds.

Molds ready for the freezer.

Step 4. Finally, add the popsicle sticks. Put the molds in the freezer for 4 to 6 hours or overnight until the popsicles are fully frozen. I normally leave mine overnight.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to remove popsicles from the molds?

Sometimes, it can be tricky to remove popsicles out of the plastic molds or silicone molds. Use this little trick to quickly and easily remove them.

Simply run warm water on the outside of the molds. This will help to loosen the popsicles from the molds.

Just be careful and don’t do this too long or with hot water. You do not want to melt the popsicles.

How long do homemade lemonade popsicles last in the freezer?

Homemade Lemon popsicles will last 3 months in the freezer. You will love having this delicious treat in the freezer to enjoy.

How to store?

You can leave the popsicles in the mold in the freezer. Another option is to take each popsicle out of the molds and place inside a freezer bag.

I like to store mine in a plastic bag. This makes it easier for the kids to grab one for a snack without having to try to get it out of the mold.

Feel free to use the storage method that works best for you and your family.

Do I need to use fresh lemon juice?

We prefer freshly squeezed lemon juice in this recipe. While you certainly can try using bottled lemon juice, we think fresh tastes better.

Bottled lemon juice often is more tart so keep that in mind. If you plan to use bottled, you may need to adjust the sugar accordingly.
