Lemon Lime Popsicle Variations
- Lime Zest and Lemon Zest. If desired, you can add lime and lemon zest to the mixture or garnish the popsicles with the zest before serving.
- Fruit Slices. Feel free to add lime slices or lemon slices to the popsicle mixture.
- Fresh juice. The recipe is best using fresh lemon and lime juice. It doesn’t take much extra time to squeeze the lemons. Bottled lime juice and lemon juice will work in a pinch.
- Sparkling Water. Instead of water, substitute sparking water for a fizzy treat.
- Mint leaves. Add fresh mint leaves to the popsicles for a gorgeous pop of color and a flavor twist that is complimentary.
- Lemon lime soda. For even more citrus flavor, use a lemon lime soda such as Sprite or Sierra Mist in these popsicles. It is easy to change the base liquid to make something new.
- Creamy popsicles. You can add coconut milk or yogurt for a portion of the water. We suggest using half water and half coconut milk or yogurt in the recipe.
- Honey. Substitute honey to taste for the simple syrup in the recipe if you prefer an alternative sweetener.
- Small Paper Cups. You can use these if you don’t have popsicle molds.
How to make lemon lime popsicles

Step 1. Get out a small pan and add sugar water. Bring water to a simmer and whisk in sugar until completely dissolved. Remove from heat and allow to cool.

Step 3. Add the citrus juice. Stir in fresh lemon and lime juice until fully incorporated.

Step 4. Pour the mixture into molds.

Step 5. Allow to freeze. Freeze for 5 hours or overnight.
How to remove from the mold?
Hold the popsicle stick and run warm water over the mold. The popsicle should easily come out of the mold.
Be careful that you do not use hot water or you risk melting the popsicle.

Storage
You can freeze the popsicles in the mold in the freezer as one option. Another option is to remove the popsicles from the mold. Place them inside a freezer bag or airtight container.
Both options work just fine. However, if you have younger children, it is easier to just remove them all at once and store in a freezer container. It makes for easy access when the kids want a snack.
FAQs
Homemade popsicles need to freeze for at least 6 hours but overnight is best.
They will last up to 2 months if stored properly. We suggest placing them inside a freezer bag or container to ensure freshness.
Substitute a sugar substitute such as Stevia or monk fruit. You can also add another fruit that is naturally sweeter to enhance the popsicles naturally. Pineapple is a good add in and provides natural sweetness while combining perfectly with the lemon and lime.
