Variations

  • Alcohol free pie. You can easily leave the tequila and triple sec out. Then add in 3 more Tbsp. of lime juice instead.
  • Lemon juice. Substitute lemon juice and zest for the lime in this recipe. It will make a delicious lemon pie.
  • Homemade Pie Crust. You can make a homemade graham cracker pie crust if you prefer. Either option is delicious in this recipe.
  • Pretzel Crust. You might enjoy a pretzel crust in this recipe for a salty-sweet combination. Just use 5-ounce pretzels and crush them. It is easiest to do this using a blender or food processor so they are really fine.

Then add the pretzels to 9 to 10 tablespoons melted butter and and ½ cup sugar. Combine and press the crushed pretzels mixture into a pie plate. Allow the crust to bake in an oven to 350 for 10 minutes or until just golden brown.
  • Pie Shell. Another option is a pastry crust. Make sure to bake it first and allow to completely cool prior to pouring the lime mixture.

How to Make Margarita Pie

Bowl with heavy cream beat until stiff peaks.

Step 1. Beat the heavy cream. You will need an electric mixer or stand mixer to whip the heavy cream into stiff peaks.  Do not over-mix the cream.

Step 2. Get out a large bowl. Whisk together the sweetened condensed milk, lime juice, part of the Lime zest, tequila, and triple sec. Then gently add the condensed milk mixture to the lime mixture until just blended. Be careful not to overmix this. Only blend until it is just combined.

FAQs

How to serve?

It is optional but so pretty with lime slices on each slice. This adds a nice touch when serving.

You can also dollop whipped cream on top of each slice. If you want it to look fancy, use a piping bag.

How to cut margarita pie?

When serving, allow the pie to sit at room temperature for at least 10 minutes and then it’s ready to slice and serve.

It is easiest to slice if you use a large knife. This will help cut all the way to the bottom of the pie crust. Since it has been frozen, it might be difficult but the large knife will help.

The first piece can be the most difficult to cut. However, it is easier once that first slice is out of the way.

How to store?

Store the leftover pie covered in the freezer for up to 2 months. Make sure it is inside an airtight container to ensure freshness.

I also like to put a layer of plastic wrap over the pie to help prevent freezer burn.

Another option is to freeze the pie in slices. This is a great idea if you want to be able to just grab one slice at a time. Just make sure to wrap each slice really well.

Can you make this in advance?

This pie can easily be made 3 days before serving. Just keep it in the freezer until ready to serve and then allow it to sit on the counter before slicing.

It is an easy make ahead dessert that allows you to save time. You can do other things on the day of the party.
