Expert Tips

  • Leave treats at room temperature – Do not store in the refrigerator. They are best left to cool at room temperature so that the remain gooey and delicious.
  • Spray Wax Paper – I spray wax paper with non-stick cooking spray. Then use the wax paper to press the mixture into the pan so that it doesn’t stick to my hands. You can also use a buttered spatula.
  • Gently Press into Pan – When adding the Fruity Pebble mixture to the pan, make sure you gently press into the pan. This will keep the treats light and easy to bite into.
  • Slowly Heat Marshmallows – When you are heating the marshmallows, make sure to slowly heat them. This prevents them from burning in getting to hard.
  • Heat Marshmallows on low heat – To melt the marshmallows correctly, I like to heat on low heat. Then stir the marshmallow mixture every 30 seconds. This results in chewy, gooey marshmallow treats.
  • Vanilla Extract – If you prefer you can add in a teaspoon of vanilla extract. It gives the treats a warm flavoring.
  • Fresh Marshmallows – When making this recipe, make sure your marshmallows are fresh and in date. Fresh marshmallows add to the flavor and the gooey treats.
  • Grease supplies. This recipe is sticky and it’s helpful to grease any spoons, bowls, saucepans and baking dishes being used.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Size of Pan Should I use?

In this recipe we used an 8×8 pan as we like our Fruity Pebble treats thicker. But you can definitely use a 13 x 9-inch pan to make them thinner. You can also double the recipe to get a thicker treat.

Can I use large Marshmallows instead of Mini Marshmallows?

We used Mini Marshmallows in this recipe, but you use the large marshmallows if that is all you have. We will add in some mini marshmallows at the end sometimes, since we like it extra gooey.

But if you try to do that with large marshmallows, the results may not be same.

Why are my Fruity Pebble Treats falling apart?

If you find that your marshmallow treats are falling apart, it could be because the marshmallows are overcook. You can to only heat the marshmallows right to the point that they are melted.

Make sure to use exact measurements and allow your marshmallow treats to cook for at least an hour. This will help from the treats from falling apart.

How to store?

Store the leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week. Storing your Fruity Pebble Treats properly will keep them fresh and crispy longer. You can even wrap them individually and place in the freezer to last even longer.

Do I have to use the microwave?

No, you can use a large saucepan or large pot on the stove to melt the butter and marshmallows. Either method is suitable to make Fruity Pebble Rice Crispy Treats.
