Why We Love This Recipe
They are great for parties, Game Day, baby showers and just because. The oreo balls turn out so gorgeous and look worthy of a bakery. However, they are super fast and so easy to make.
Each bite is creamy and decadent so you don’t have to eat a lot to feel satisfied. We used milk chocolate but you can dip them in white chocolate. Both options are delicious.
What is the Best Chocolate for Dipping?
We used chocolate dipping chips and the Oreo balls turned out so smooth and pretty. The melting chips really melt perfectly and make dipping so easy.
You can also use milk chocolate chips or almond bark chocolate as well.
Ingredients

- Cream Cheese. It’s easiest to combine if softened at room temperature.
- Regular Oreo Cookies. Don’t use double-stuffed Oreo cookies because they will have too much filling.

Variations
- Use different types of Chocolate. – Consider using white chocolate instead of milk chocolate. I like to make a combination of milk chocolate and white chocolate Oreo truffles.
- Use different types of Oreos. – Also, you can use any type of Oreos for this recipe. I have used the peppermint Oreos and the vanilla Oreos before and both were delicious. Red velvet Oreo cookies would be delicious.
How to Make Oreo Balls
- Step 1. Prepare baking sheet – First, line a cutting board or baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Step 2. Crush the Oreo cookies finely in a food processor.

Step 3. Combine the room-temperature cream cheese and crushed Oreo crumbs until mixed together really well. You can use a stand mixer or hand mixer.

Step 4. Form the dough into balls. I like to use a small cookie scoop for the perfect portion. You can also use a teaspoon.

Step 5. Place the Oreo balls on a baking sheet. Freeze for 15 minutes to 20 minutes.

Step 6. Melt the chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl for 1-minute intervals. Continue stirring and repeating until completely melted.
- Step 7. Dip balls in the chocolate. Use a fork to dip the balls into melted chocolate to completely coat. Shake off excess and return to tray.
- Step 8. Allow the chocolate to harden. Melt the white chocolate and drizzle over the Oreo Balls.
Pro Tips
- Use a Food Processor. – It will help to use a food processor like these on Amazon if you don’t have one. I prefer the Oreos to be crushed into fine crumbs as they mix easier. However, if you don’t have a food processor, you can crush Oreos in a ziplock bag with a rolling pin.
- Use a Cookie Scoop – I highly recommend using a cookie scoop to form the balls with the Oreo mixture. You will thank me later because it saves so much time on making each Oreo ball the same size.
- Use a Fork – I recommend using a fork to coat the Oreo balls with the chocolate coating instead of a spoon. This fork allows the excess chocolate to drip off so that the chocolate is smooth.
- Use full fat cream cheese. – Don’t use light cream cheese, the full fat one is the best option for this recipe. It will make creamy Oreo balls.
- Freezer Oreo Balls. – Be sure to freeze the Oreo balls before attempting to dip them in the chocolate so that they don’t fall apart.
How to Get a Smooth Finish
For a smooth finish on your Oreo Balls make sure you are using a good chocolate.
- We recommend using melting wafers, candy melts, or almond bark and that is thoroughly melted.
- Make sure you have all your supplies ready so you can move quickly.
- Dip balls into melted chocolate with fork or cover with a spoon
- Tap fork on bowl and place on parchment for chocolate to harden.
How to Decorate Oreo Balls
- Holiday – Decorate using sprinkles for the holidays you are celebrating.
- Drizzle Chocolate – Drizzle with different colors of chocolates.
- Chocolate – Dip the oreo balls in different flavor of chocolate.
Storage
Since these are made with cream cheese, store the leftovers in an airtight container or zipped-top bag for up to 1 week. You can let them sit out at room temperature for a few hours when you’re serving them.
Can you Freeze Oreo Balls?
Yes, these freeze great. I recommend placing them on a baking sheet. Then place that baking sheet in the freezer for at least 1 hour.
After that time, move them to a freezer bag and store for up to 3 months. This process will ensure that the Oreo balls do not stick together when frozen. See Can you Freeze Oreo Balls for more tips.
