Why This Recipe Works

As you can see, there are endless combinations to make these delicious pretzel bites. From parties and holidays, we adapt this recipe all year long.

With so few ingredients, this chocolate caramel recipe couldn’t be any easier. It is a holiday tradition, but we also make it just because. The kids love this for movie night or an after-school surprise.

Ingredients

Ingredients for Rolo Pretzel Sandwiches - pretzels, rolo candy, sprinkles, white chocolate.
  • Pretzels. You can use snaps or mini pretzels.
  • Rolo Candies. Go ahead and unwrap them so you will be ready.
  • White Chocolate Chips. It’s important to use a good quality chocolate. I like Ghirardelli.
  • Sprinkles. Choose your favorite Christmas sprinkles for a festive touch.

Find the complete list of ingredients at the bottom in the recipe card.

Substitutions and Additions

  • Candy Melts. Instead of white chocolate, use different colors of candy melts. This would be pretty for different occasions.
  • Sprinkles. This treat can easily work year-round. Substitute Christmas sprinkles for Valentine’s, Halloween, or anything you like.
  • Hershey Kiss. You can use a hug instead of rolos in this recipe.
  • M&M on top. Before the chocolate dries, place an M&M chocolate candy on top. You can use regular or seasonal depending on the occasion.
  • Pretzels. This recipe can be made with square pretzels snaps or mini. You can also use twists or circles but be careful the chocolate does not fall through the gap.
  • Peanut Butter. If you love peanut butter, use a mini Reese cup in this recipe. The chocolate and peanut butter combination is so tasty.
  • Nuts. Top each pretzel bite with a pecan and press gently into the chocolate before it sets.

Step By Step Instructions

  • Step 1. Preheat the oven. It needs to be set to 250 degrees F.
Pretzels on a baking sheet.

Step 2. Place half of the pretzels on a baking sheet. Make sure they do not overlap.

Rolo candy on top of each pretzel.

Step 3. Unwrap the Rolo Candies and place them on top of each pretzel. Bake for 3-4 minutes until the Rolos start to glisten. You do not want them melted but just softened.

Pretzels placed on top of each candy.

Step 4. Immediately add the pretzels on top. This needs to go on top of each rolo right away otherwise they will not stick together. Press down gently to smash the Rolo candy. Place in the fridge and allow to harden for 30 minutes to 1 hour.

Step 5. Melt the white chocolate chips in a small bowl by microwaving in 30-second intervals until completely melted.

Pretzels dipped in white chocolate and placed on baking sheet.

Step 6. Dip one side of the pretzel sandwich into the melted white chocolate chips. You can coat the entire pretzel, but we like the way it looks with only part of it dipped.

Pretzels dipped in chocolate and topped with sprinkles.

Step 7. Put the candy on a cookie sheet. Top with sprinkles and allow to cool.

Storage

Store in an airtight container at room temperature and they should last for a few weeks.  Although, they never last very long around our house. Everyone eats them really quickly.

I suggest placing wax paper in between the layers so they do not stick to each other.

Expert Tips

  • Line the baking sheet. Use parchment paper or a silicone baking mat to line the pan.
  • Allow to set. The pretzel bites needs to set before storing.
  • Make in advance and freeze. Place the pretzels on a baking sheet and flash freeze. This should prevent them from sticking together in the freezer. Then place the candy in a freezer container for up to 2-3 months.
  • Top with sprinkles immediately. Add the sprinkles before the chocolate sets.
