Why We Love This Recipe
The entire recipe is very simple. However, the results are fantastic. This rich cobbler recipe is one of our favorites.
The delicious crust is made from flour, sugar, milk and a few other simple ingredients. The fruit center is full of canned peaches. You can also use frozen or fresh peaches to enjoy anytime of the year.
Ingredients
- Can of Peaches – Don’t drain this because the juice makes this cobbler moist and delicious.
- All Purpose Flour – Spoon the flour into a measuring cup and don’t scoop it. It will be more accurately measured.
- Milk – You can use the type of milk you prefer but I use whole milk.
- Butter – Real butter is recommended.

Variations
- Fruit – Apple, blackberries, blueberry, and strawberries all make amazing cobblers.
- Fresh or Frozen – Fresh, frozen or canned fruit will work.
- More liquid – If you prefer your cobbler with more liquid, add more juice.
- Lemon Juice – If you prefer, you can add lemon juice for added flavor.
- Nuts – Add nuts to the mix before baking for even more flavor.
How to Make Peach Cobbler
- Step 1 – Heat Oven – First, preheat the oven. This recipe is best using a 9×9 pan so get that out too.
Step 2. Place the butter in the baking dish and put in the oven to melt.
Step 3. Make sure the butter is spread all around the bottom. I usually just swirl it around and that does the trick.
Step 4. Next, take out a mixing bowl and add the milk, flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.
Step 5. Once you have this combined, pour the batter over top of the melted butter in the baking dish.
Step 6. Finally, pour the entire can of sliced peaches and the juice over the flour mixture. This will spread out some but make sure to pour it all around.
Step 7. Bake until the crust starts to brown.

Using fresh peaches makes a delicious fresh peach cobbler.
Recipe Tips
- Baking Dish – This recipe is made in an 8×8 baking dish. But if you want to double the recipe you can make it in a 9×13 pan. We used a casserole-type dish to make the cobbler but you can also use a cast iron skillet.
- Canned Peaches – Canned peaches are what this recipe calls for as they add moisture to the cobbler. We recommend pouring the juice from the peaches into the baking dish. Spread the canned peaches over the entire baking dish so that every bite has some peaches in it.
- Melted Butter – Melt the butter in the oven and make sure it covers the bottom of the pan.
- Brown Sugar – We used granulated sugar in this recipe, but you can also use brown sugar.
- Frozen Peaches – If you prefer, you can use frozen peaches in this recipe. We recommend thawing the peaches before mixing with the other ingredients.
- Baking Cobbler – The cobbler takes about 35 to 40 minutes to bake. It should be golden brown but not overly brown. Since ovens vary, make sure to keep an eye on the cobbler.
- Allow to set – After baking, the cobbler needs to set for 10 to 15 minutes. Resist the urge to serve it right away as it needs this time to properly set.
Storage
- The cobbler can be stored in the refrigerator for 4-5 days.
- We prefer cobbler served warm so just reheat in the oven for 20 minutes. Just remember to let the dish come to room temperature before placing in the oven.
- If you just want a small portion, you can scoop up a bowl and pop in the microwave.
How to Freeze?
You can freeze cobbler before it is baked or after it is baked. However, just note that if you freeze the cobbler after it is baked, the topping may become soggy after it has thawed.
If you freeze the cobber before it is baked, prepare the cobbler as indicated. Then cover the uncooked cobbler with plastic wrap and aluminum foil. Place in the freezer and it will last about 3 months.
