Why We Love This Recipe

It is absolutely fabulous. Everything you love about rice krispie treats meets all that you love about s’mores. The combination is undeniable and so decadent. If you love classic Rice Krispie Treats with Marshmallow Fluff, this recipe is a must try.

Ingredients for smore rice krispie treats - rice krispy cereal, mini marshmallows, and chocolate chips.

Ingredients

  • Rice Krispy cereal. Make sure this is fresh for best results.
  • Mini marshmallows. The miniature marshmallows are easier to melt but you can use the large size if you prefer.
  • Semi-sweet chocolate chips. Semi Sweet helps to cut down on the sweetness.

Find the complete list of ingredients at the bottom of the page.

Variations and Substitutions

  • Substitute cocoa krispies instead of plain crispy rice cereal. This will give the recipe tons of chocolate flavor if you love chocolate. Another idea is to use half plain and half chocolate rice krispies in the recipe.
  • Golden Graham cereal can be used instead of graham crackers. They are a little bit sturdier but both taste great.
  • Cut up chocolate bars to use instead of chocolate chips in the bars.
  • For even more chocolate flavor, press fun size Hershey Bars into the top of the rice krispie treats. Not only will this look pretty but tastes amazing.

Storage

You can store these treats in the fridge for up to 5 days.

I recommend storing these treats in the fridge to keep the chocolate set. You can store them on the counter, but they will be a tad bit melty and they will be softer due to the marshmallows and chocolate.

Make sure to cover the pan tightly with plastic wrap so they will stay fresh. Can You Freeze Rice Krispie Treats? Learn all the best tips.

How long will rice krispie treats last?

They will last up to 5 days if stored properly. In all honestly they don’t last that long in our house. Everyone races to eat them as fast as they can!

They are that amazing.

Pro Tips

  • You do not want the graham crackers to be completely crushed and powdery, instead you want them to be in coarse chunks. This will give the treats some extra texture and help distribute the graham cracker flavor better.
  • To make it easier to press the mixture into the baking pan, place your hand inside a ziploc bag or use wax paper. Spray with cooking spray and it should be simple to press the mixture without much mess.
  • When cutting into bars, try dipping your knife into warm water for perfectly cut squares. Wipe clean after each cut to reduce any excess mixture on the knife.
