Recipe Tips
- Freeze overnight. Depending on how cold your freezer is, your ice cream may take an extra hour or one less hour to freeze. When possible, I like to let my ice cream freeze overnight just to be safe.
- Metal container. If you have a metal loaf pan, use that over glass. It freezes faster.
- Full Fat ingredients. Full fat and full sugar ingredients give this recipe the best flavor and consistency. We do not recommend substituting these ingredients.
- Fresh fruit is best. Fresh strawberries will give you the most flavor. However, you can also use frozen strawberries. For frozen strawberries, let the fruit thaw in the fridge before using.
- Thicker consistency. For a chunkier ice cream, you can add an extra quarter cup of diced strawberries to your ice cream. This will be added after it has been transferred to the loaf pan.
- Sweetened Condensed Milk is a must. The sweetened condensed milk serves as both a sweetener and a thickener in your ice cream. When folded into the whipped cream, it will help give your ice cream a smooth, creamy consistency.
- Enhance the flavor with vanilla. The vanilla extract helps draw out some of the natural sweetness in the strawberries.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, this recipe can easily be doubled. Just keep in mind that you will need two loaf pans to freeze the mixture in.
Frozen berries can be substituted in this recipe. While we do recommend fresh due to the enhanced flavor, frozen can be used. You will need to thaw the strawberries first and drain any excess moisture.
Typically, when you use an ice cream maker, the constant churning keeps ice crystals from forming. This makes the ice cream soft and creamy.
No Churn ice cream retains its softness by using a mixer to combine the ingredients. Whipping this mixture prior to freezing helps to incorporate the air.
Also, the high fat content in the mixture helps to prevent ice crystals during the freezing process.
