Recipe Tips
- Make Ahead – This is the perfect Ice Cream to prepare ahead of time. I like to make it the night before serving, so it is ready to go.
- Top the Ice Cream – You can top with more of the chopped cookies and chopped strawberries when serving if you prefer.
- Chill the bowl and beaters – Place the mixing bowl and beaters of the hand mixer in the fridge or freezer to chill before using. The ice cream mixture will freeze faster.
- Allow to Freeze – Allow at least 6 hours for ice cream to freeze. We recommend letting it freeze oven night for the best results.
- Chop Cookies – Chop the cookies with a food processor for best results. You can also break into pieces or chop into a crumb coating using a zip lock bag.
- Loaf Pan – Make sure to place the homemade ice cream in a freezer safe loaf pan.
- Sweetened condensed milk – Using sweetened condensed milk gives the ice cream base its sweetness. Do not substitute it because it will change the texture of the ice cream.
- Mixer – We used a stand mixer but you can use a hand mixer as well.
How Long Will Homemade Ice Cream Last?
Homemade ice cream last about 3 months if it is stored inside an airtight container. I also like to cover with plastic wrap. You can also place a layer of parchment paper on the ice cream to help prevent ice crystals from forming.
We recommend eating this ice cream within a couple of months or ice crystals and a grainy texture may develop.
