Why This Recipe Works
- Fudgy texture: The brownie base is rich and dense, providing that perfect gooey bite.
- Oreo overload: Crushed Oreos are mixed in and layered on top for extra crunch and flavor in every bite.
- Simple ingredients: Uses pantry staples and store-bought cookies. No fancy tools or ingredients needed.
- Easy to make: Minimal prep with big payoff, making it great for both beginner and experienced bakers.
- Crowd-pleaser: A guaranteed hit with kids and adults alike especially Oreo lovers!
- Customizable: You can easily swap in flavored Oreos, add chocolate chips, or drizzle with ganache.
Ingredients

- Brown sugar: You can use either light or dark brown sugar, depending on your flavor preference or even make your own Homemade Brown Sugar Recipe.
- Unsweetened cocoa powder: Gives the brownies their deep chocolate flavor. I like using Hershey’s, but any good-quality brand works.
- All-purpose flour: Be sure to spoon the flour into your measuring cup rather than scooping to avoid packing in too much.
- Eggs: Help to bind the batter and give the brownies structure.
- Butter: Use real butter for rich flavor and the best texture.
- Vanilla extract: Pure vanilla extract enhances the chocolate and cookie flavors beautifully.
- Semi-sweet chocolate chips: These help balance the sweetness and add extra chocolatey goodness.
- Oreos: Use regular Oreo cookies (not Double Stuf) for the right balance of crunch and cream.

Variations
- Switch up the Oreo flavor: Experiment with different Oreo varieties. There are so many to choose from! Peanut butter Oreos, mint, or even birthday cake Oreos would all add a fun twist.
- Try different chocolate chips: Swap milk chocolate chips for white, dark, or even a mix of both to change up the flavor.
- Add peanut butter chips: For a sweet-and-salty combo, mix in peanut butter chips alongside the chocolate chips.
- Stir in chopped candy: Boost the decadence by folding in chopped peanut butter cups, M&M’s, or your favorite candy bars.
How to Make Oreo Brownies
- Step 1 – Prepare oven and line the pan. First, preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Line an 8X8 baking pan with parchment paper or foil (line the sides as well). This will help with clean up.

Step 2 – Combine brownie wet ingredients – In a large mixing bowl, whisk the ½ cup butter, eggs, granulated sugar and brown sugar. Then add in vanilla extract until they are well combined.

Step 3 – Add in Dry Ingredients – Next, slowly stir in the cocoa powder, flour, salt and baking powder. Mix these ingredients by hand and be careful not to over mix. Then fold in the chocolate chips.

Step 4 – Spread half brownie mix to pan – Spread half of the brownie batter into the baking dish.

Step 5. Layer Oreo on brownie mix. Layer 16 Oreos on top of the chocolate mixture in the prepared pan.

Step 6. Pour the batter. Next, layer the remaining batter on top of the layer of the Oreos. Crush the remaining Oreos and sprinkle them on top. Then sprinkle the remaining chocolate chips on top.

Step 7. Bake Brownies – Bake for 35-40 minutes until a toothpick insert into the brownies comes out clean. Allow for the brownies to cool in the pan on a wire rack before cutting.

Pro Tips
- Line your pan: Use parchment paper or foil to line your baking pan for easy cleanup and to lift the brownies out effortlessly once baked.
- Use a brownie mix (optional): While this recipe is from scratch, a boxed brownie mix works great if you’re short on time.
- Cut cleanly with a plastic knife: A plastic knife cuts through brownies smoothly without tearing or sticking especially when they’re fudgy.
- Avoid overmixing: Mix the batter just until everything is combined. Overmixing can make the brownies dense or cakey.
- Watch the bake time: Don’t overbake! For that rich, fudgy texture, remove the brownies as soon as a toothpick comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- Use room temperature ingredients: Let eggs and butter sit at room temperature before mixing to help everything blend more smoothly.
- Great for gifting: These brownies are perfect for cookie trays, holiday parties, dessert tables, and cookie exchanges—they’re always a hit!
Storage
Store these fudgy brownies in an airtight container or cover with aluminum foil. You can leave them at room temperature. They will last about a week if stored properly.
