Homemade brownies taste so amazing and this recipe makes it even simpler. We love cake mix recipes and this one does not disappoint. The rich chocolate flavor combined with chocolate chips make such a decadent dessert.

This dessert can be made in a matter of minutes without much prep work or ingredients. It is so simple with really tasty results.

Can you make brownies from a cake mix?

Yes, you can definitely use cake mix to make brownies for the easiest brownie recipe ever. You only need a few ingredients, and it turns out perfectly every time. The secret is to add chocolate chips and it takes the recipe to the next level.

Once you give this a try, you will be hooked on cake mix brownies. They are so delicious.

Ingredients for the brownies.

Ingredients:

  • Chocolate Cake Mix
  • Vegetable Oil
  • large Eggs
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips

How to make brownies out of cake mix:

  • Step 1. Preheat the oven and prepare the pan. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and line an 8X8 baking pan with parchment paper and spray it with a non-stick cooking spray.
  • Step 2. Combine the cake mix and other ingredients. Mix together the cake mix, vegetable oil, egg and vanilla extract in a large bowl until combined.  Then fold in the chocolate chips gently with a rubber spatula.

  • Step 4. Allow to cool. Let the brownies cool completely.  Then they are ready to slice, serve and enjoy!

How to serve cake mix brownies:

They are great served alone but feel free to add some toppings.

Some of our favorite toppings include:

  • Vanilla ice cream. Top the brownies with ice cream.
  • Hot Fudge or Chocolate Sauce. Drizzle more chocolate on top.
  • Nuts. Wet walnuts are delicious served on top of the brownies.
  • Whipped Cream. You can use store bought or homemade whipped cream is delicious.
  • Caramel Sauce. This is another tasty topping alone or combined with chocolate.

We love to make a hot fudge brownie and combine all of these delicious toppings. My favorite is a warm brownie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream topped with hot fudge, nuts and whipped cream. It is amazing.

Which toppings are your favorite? There are so many delicious choices.

How to store:

Store the leftover brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 to 7 days.

Can you freeze brownies?

Brownies can be frozen up to 3 months. Make sure to wrap them really good in plastic wrap to avoid freezer burn. The entire pan can be frozen or individually wrapped.

Either way, they just need to be wrapped really well and you can even put them in a plastic bag after wrapping them in plastic wrap. This will ensure freshness.

The brownies should be completely cool before freezing. When ready to enjoy, thaw at room temperature. If you like your brownies warm, they can be reheated in the microwave.

Easy Additions:

  • White chocolate Chips. Substitute white chocolate chips for chocolate chips in this recipe. Another idea is to do ½ cup of each.
  • Peanut Butter Morsels. If you love peanut butter and chocolate, add peanut butter morsels to the mixture instead of the chocolate chips.
  • Cake Mix. It really does not matter what brand you use. Feel free to use your favorite brand. We have used Duncan Hines and store brand with good results.
  • Flavors. Instead of chocolate, use other flavors. Red Velvet Cake mix is delicious to make red velvet brownies. Strawberry and lemon also taste great.

Yellow cake mix would result in wonderful blondie style brownies. If you want to stick with chocolate but love dark chocolate, use a dark chocolate mix.
  • Add ins. You can add 1 cup of chopped nuts to the mixture if you prefer. Chopped walnuts or pecans make great options. Other ideas include peanuts and macadamia nuts.
  • Frosting. You can top the brownies with chocolate frosting for even more chocolate flavor.
  • Candy. Mix in M&M’s, crushed heath bar or toffee bits, Reese’s Pieces or any candy you like.

Tips for the best Cake mix brownies:

  • Prepare the baking dish. The mixture is very thick. Make sure the pan has been lined with parchment paper and sprayed with cooking spray.
  • Don’t overbake the brownies. They will become tough if overcooked. They should be set around the edges.
  • Good Quality Chocolate Chips. Try to purchase a good brand of chocolate. It will make a big difference in the brownie mix.
  • Spread the batter. It is really thick so it might be hard to spread. Try spraying a rubber spatula with cooking spray to spread it. This should make it simple and easy.
  • Baking dish. Make sure that you use an 8×8 baking dish. This recipe is too thin using a 9×13 and the brownies turn out perfectly with an 8×8 pan.
