Find the entire ingredient list and recipe at the bottom of the page.

Additions and Variations

  • Chocolate Chips. Substitute dark chocolate chips, semi-sweet chocolate chips or milk chocolate chips instead of white chocolate.
  • Nuts. Sprinkle chopped pecans, almonds, walnuts or peanuts on top before the chocolate sets.
  • Sea Salt. Top with sea salt if desired.
  • Crackers. Substitute ritz crackers or graham crackers for the saltine crackers.

How to make Patriotic Crack

  • Step 1. First, preheat oven to 350 F.
  • Step 2. Prepare the baking sheet while the oven is preheating. Line a cooking sheet with foil or a silicone mat. Spray it with cooking spray.

Step 3. Next, put the saltine crackers in a single layer on the cookie sheet. Set aside for later.

Step 4. Now, get a sauce pan out and melt the butter over low to medium heat. Once the butter is melted, add the brown sugar and stir everything together really good. Let this mixture come to a boil and boil for 3 minutes.

Step 5. Remove from heat and pour the mixture all over the crackers. Once you have poured all the mixture on the crackers, put the pan in the oven and bake. You just want the edges of brown sugar to get bubbly.

Step 6. Remove from oven and sprinkle the chocolate chips all over the top. Make sure to do this as soon as it comes out of the oven so it will melt.

Step 7. Let the crackers sit for a few minutes to allow the chocolate chips to melt. Then spread with an offset spatula around the sheet pan so everything is covered. Finally, sprinkle the patriotic sprinkles all over the melted chocolate. Put the baking sheet in the fridge so everything can harden. You can place in the freezer if you are in a hurry.

Step 8. The last step is to remove the toffee from the pan and break it apart.

Storage

Place the toffee in an airtight container at room temperature. Just be careful that it does not get too warm, or it will melt.
