Why This Recipe Works
This dessert recipe does not disappoint, and everyone will love it. Every Memorial Day and July 4th, it is my go-to patriotic dessert.
The fresh fruit balances out the cream cheese filling perfectly. Let’s get started with this simple and delicious recipe.
Ingredients
- Cream Cheese. This needs to be softened at room temperature.
- Powdered Sugar. If it’s lumpy, sift the powdered sugar.
- Vanilla Extract. Pure Vanilla extract is best.
- Large Strawberries. They need to be big enough to easily stuff with filling.
Find the complete ingredient list at the bottom of the page.
Step by Step Instructions
- Combine the filling. Beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract with a handheld mixture until well combined.
- Prepare the strawberries. Cut the tops off of each strawberry and place them on a platter or baking sheet with the cut side down. Then cut an “X” into the pointed end of the strawberry and be careful not to cut all the way through the strawberry.
- Add the cheesecake filling. Place the cream cheese filling into a pastry bag with star tip and pipe the mixture into the center of the “X” on each strawberry. Then top the mixture with a blueberry.
- Refrigerate the berries. Place the strawberries in the refrigerator for at least 1 to 2 hours and then they are ready to serve. This allows the filling to become firm and hold its shape better.
Toppings
It is optional but you can also add toppings to the stuffed strawberries.
- Sprinkle the top with graham cracker crumbs before serving.
- Crushed pecans or almonds would be yummy too.
- Top with whipped cream. I love Homemade Whipped Cream Recipe.
- Drizzle Homemade Caramel Sauce Recipe or Hot Fudge Sauce Recipe on top.
- Top with sprinkles to match the occasion.
This recipe is so versatile and easy to adapt to preference.
Storage
Store leftover strawberries in the refrigerator in an airtight container.
FAQs
They will last up to 3 days if stored properly. Just keep in mind that the moisture from the fresh strawberries will make the filling start to lose shape after a while.
The juicer the fresh fruit, the more quickly this will happen. Firmer strawberries will last longer. Keep this in mind when selecting the fruit at the grocery store or market.
I do not suggest making these ahead of time. The fruit will become soggy and the filling will not hold its shape.
It just isn’t possible to make these very much in advance due to the juiciness of the fruit.
However, you can make the cheesecake mixture in advance. Simply mix the filling together. Cover the mixture and refrigerate.
The next day, add the cream cheese filling to the berries. This will save a little bit of prep work on the day you plan to serve them.
Pro Tips
- If you do not have a piping bag, you can put the mixture in a ziploc bag. Then, cut the corner off of one side of the bag to use to pipe the mixture into the strawberries.
- You can use granulated sugar instead of powdered sugar. However, I find that this gives the mixture a grainy texture so I prefer powdered sugar.
- You can add a little bit of almond extract to the cheesecake filling if you prefer.
- Wait to assemble until ready to serve so it does not get mushy.
