Smores popcorn ingredients - popcorn, butter, milk chocolate chips,

Ingredients

  • Popped Popcorn. It’s important to remove any un popped kernels.
  • Butter. Use real butter for the best flavor.
  • Milk Chocolate Chips. You can also use semi-sweet if you prefer.
  • Miniature Marshmallows. The mini size is the best size to get marshmallows in each bite.
  • Graham Crackers. Broken into large pieces.
  • Hershey Chocolate Bar. Broken into bite size squares.

Additions and Substitutions

  • Microwave popcorn. We used microwave popcorn for this recipe. However, you can use whichever is your favorite!

You can also use air popped, stove top or store bought. I don’t recommend extra butter or any variations like that in this recipe.
  • Golden Grahams. Substitute golden graham cereal for the graham cracker pieces. The graham cracker cereal is an easy substitute and tastes great with this marshmallow popcorn.
  • Mix-ins. Try adding peanut butter morsels into the mixture. While not a traditional s’mores flavor, it is really tasty with the chocolate.
  • Butter. We used unsalted butter, but you can use salted butter if you love the combination of salty and sweet.

Storage

You can store the leftovers at room temperature in an airtight container or bag for up to 1 week.  Make sure the popcorn has completely set before placing in storage containers.

The chocolate needs to be completely hardened. You can also store this inside a cellophane bag. It makes perfect gifts, and everyone will love it for a great treat.

Pro Tips

  • Remove unpopped popcorn kernels. Make sure to take out any kernels that did not pop in the mixture. You do not want to harm anyone’s teeth by mixing this in the melted chocolate.
  • Prepare the pan. Line the baking sheets with wax paper to make clean up easy. The mixture is sticky until it sets and you definitely want to line the pan.
  • Chocolate. We used mini Hershey Bars and chocolate chips mixed into the cereal. You can change things up and use only mini chocolate chips or only chocolate bars. Also, dark chocolate is a really great flavor to mix in or substitute.
  • Melt the chocolate in intervals. Don’t rush this step or you risk burning the chocolate. Melt in 20 second intervals and stir in between each one. Following this simple step will ensure perfectly melted chocolate every time.
  • Double boiler. If you do not want to use the microwave, you can use a double boiler to melt the chocolate. Either option is fine if you have a preference.
