The recipe is easy to follow and inexpensive to make.

Ingredients

Ingredients for Snickers popcorn - popped popcorn, butter, brown sugar, baking soda, vanilla, snickers bars, semi sweet chocolate.
  • Popped Popcorn. I just used bags of microwave popcorn.
  • Butter. Make sure to buy real butter.
  • Brown Sugar. The Best Brown Sugar Substitutes
  • Baking soda. Best Baking Soda Substitutes 
  • Vanilla Extract. Always use pure vanilla extract.
  • Snickers Bars. The popcorn has real snickers in each bite for a luscious treat.
  • Semi-Sweet Chocolate. I prefer semi-sweet chocolate because it isn’t as sweet as milk chocolate.

Variations and Substitutions

  • Candy. This is a great time to use leftover Christmas or Halloween Candy. Try Milky Way, Butter Finger, 3 Musketeers or anything you like.
  • Chocolate. Try using white chocolate to drizzle over top of popcorn.
  • Popcorn. We used microwave popcorn but feel free to use an air popper or store bought.

How to Make Snickers Popcorn

  • Step 1 – Preheat the oven to 250 degrees. Place the popped popcorn in a very large bowl.

Step 2. Make the Caramel. Melt the butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Then stir in the brown sugar, corn syrup and salt. Bring this mixture to a boil, stirring constantly. Then boil without stirring. After about 4 minutes, remove from the heat and then stir in the baking soda and vanilla extract.

Step 3. Next, coat the popcorn. Pour the caramel sauce over the popcorn and stir it to coat all the popcorn with the caramel sauce.

Step 4. Bake the popcorn. Place the popcorn in baking sheets. Then bake for about 30 minutes.

Step 5. Chop up the snicker’s bars.  Stir the snicker pieces into the caramel popcorn and cook for 5 more minutes so the snicker’s pieces soften.

Step 6. Then remove the popcorn from the oven and place on a baking sheet to cool.  While the popcorn is cooling, melt the semi-sweet chocolate chips.  Place the chocolate in a microwave safe bowl and heat in 30 second intervals. Make sure to stir after each interval until melted.

Step 7. Use a fork to drizzle the chocolate over the popcorn. Next, allow the popcorn to sit for 10-15 minutes. Then the popcorn is ready to break apart into pieces and enjoy!

Pro Tips

  • Melt the chocolate in intervals. You don’t want to overcook or burn the chocolate.
  • Remove any un popped popcorn kernels. It’s important to remove these before coating in melted chocolate.
  • Use full size Snickers. It’s easier to cut them into pieces using the full size bars instead of miniatures.

Storage

Store the leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. It will last up to a week but is best consumed within 3 days for best freshness.

It will begin to get soggy after 2 or 3 days.

  • 9 cups Popped Popcorn approximately 3 bags
  • 1 cup Butter
  • 1/2 cup Light Corn Syrup
  • 2 cups Brown Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 4 Full Size Snickers Bars
  • 4 oz Semi-Sweet Chocolate

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 250 degrees F (95 degrees C). Place popped popcorn in a very large bowl.
  • Melt the butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Then stir in the brown sugar, corn syrup and salt. Bring this mixture to a boil, stirring constantly. Then boil without stirring for approximately 4 minutes. Remove from the heat and then stir in the baking soda and vanilla extract.
  • Pour the caramel sauce over the popcorn and stir it to coat all the popcorn with the caramel sauce.
  • Place the popcorn in a roasting pan, two large shallow baking dishes or pans and bake in a preheated oven, for approximately 30 minutes (stirring halfway through).
  • Chop up the snickers bars.  Stir the snicker pieces into the caramel popcorn and cook for 5 more minutes for the snicker pieces to soften.  
  • Then remove the popcorn from the oven and place on a baking sheet to cool. While the popcorn is cooling, melt the semi-sweet chocolate chips. 
  • Place the chocolate in a microwave safe bowl.  Heat in 30 second intervals, stirring after each interval until melted.  Use a fork to drizzle the chocolate over the popcorn.  Let the popcorn sit for 10-15 minutes for the chocolate to set. 
  • Then the popcorn is ready to break apart into pieces and enjoy!
