Ingredients

Ingredients for recipe: candy melts, oreo cookies, sprinkles.
  • Oreos. Regular Oreo cookies work best for this recipe. Double-stuffed Oreos can be used, but regular Oreos hold up better when dipped.
  • White Candy Melts & Green Candy Melts. Available in the baking aisle. Wilton candy melts are recommended for smooth coating and vibrant color.
  • Sprinkles. Choose any festive sprinkles you like. White sprinkles or nonpareils look especially nice on green candy coating.

Variations

  • Coating Options. Instead of candy melts, you can use white chocolate chips or white melting chocolate mixed with green food coloring. Melt the chocolate in short intervals, stirring between each, just like candy melts. Chocolate wafers or almond bark also work well and can be colored for any holiday.
  • Add More Colors. Drizzle different colors of candy melts over the coated Oreos to make them extra festive. This is perfect for St. Patrick’s Day parties, and you can easily switch colors for other holidays like Christmas, Easter, or Valentine’s Day.
  • Try Different Flavors. Swap regular Oreos for Mint Oreos, Golden Oreos, or even birthday cake-flavored Oreos for a fun twist.
  • Use Molds (Optional). Silicone molds can help shape your Oreos, but they aren’t necessary. You can dip and decorate them individually for a rustic, homemade look.
  • Extra Toppings. Drizzle melted white chocolate or sprinkle colored sugar, nonpareils, or edible glitter on top for added decoration and flair.

Step By Step Instructions

  • Step 1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or wax paper.
  • Step 2. Then put the white candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl and the green candy melts in another separate bowl. Heat the candy melts in intervals starting with 30 second increments. Continue to heat until melted. Only melt in intervals so it does not burn.

Step 3. Dip an Oreo in the melted candy. You may need to use a spoon to cover the entire cookie. Then use a fork to remove the Oreo carefully. Gently tap the fork against the side of the bowl to allow excess chocolate drip. It looks so pretty with some cookies in green chocolate and some in white.

Step 4. Finally, place the dipped Oreos on the baking sheet and add the sprinkles. Just make sure that you top the Oreos with the sprinkles before the candy dries. Allow the cookies to sit at room temperature for about 1 hour.

Storage

Room Temperature: Store the Oreos in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3–4 days.

Refrigeration: To extend freshness, keep them in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 1 week.

Avoid Moisture: Make sure the container is sealed well to prevent the chocolate coating from sweating or becoming sticky.

Freezing (Optional): Chocolate-covered Oreos can be frozen for up to 2 months. Place them in a single layer on a baking sheet, freeze until firm, then transfer to a freezer-safe container. Thaw at room temperature before serving.

Pro Tips

  • Melt Candy Slowly. Melt candy melts in 20–30 second intervals in the microwave, stirring between each interval. This prevents burning and ensures a smooth, even coating.
  • Use Microwave-Safe Bowls. Always melt chocolate or candy in microwave-safe bowls to avoid accidents and ensure even heating.
  • Top with Sprinkles Immediately. Add sprinkles or decorations right after dipping while the candy is still wet. Work in batches if needed to prevent the coating from drying before decorating.
  • Let Coating Set Completely. Allow dipped Oreos to set for at least an hour at room temperature before storing or serving. This ensures the coating is firm and won’t smudge.
  • Line Your Baking Sheet. Place parchment paper or a silicone mat on your baking sheet for easy cleanup and to prevent sticking.
  • Avoid Overcrowding. Give each cookie some space on the sheet or in the drying container to prevent sticking or smudging.
  • Use Room Temperature Cookies. Ensure Oreos are at room temperature before dipping. Cold cookies can cause the candy coating to crack.
  • Optional Chill for Faster Setting. After dipping, you can place the cookies in the refrigerator for 10–15 minutes to speed up the setting process but avoid leaving them too long to prevent condensation.
  • Thin Coating if Needed. If the candy melts are too thick for dipping, add a small amount of vegetable oil or coconut oil to achieve a smooth, pourable consistency.
