Variations

  • Cake Mix. Feel free to substitute yellow cake mix for white cake mix or pumpkin spice cake. Either of these would taste delicious.
  • Gluten free option. Substitute a gluten free cake mix in this recipe if needed.
  • Bundt Pan. We suggest using a 10 cup bundt pan. However, if you decide to use a 12-cup bundt pan, increase the baking time accordingly.
  • Cinnamon and Sugar. You can increase the amount of cinnamon in this topping based on preference. If you really love cinnamon, add ½ teaspoon more until it is the desired taste.
  • Powdered Sugar Topping. Skip the glaze and just sprinkle the cake with powdered sugar on top.
  • Chocolate Drizzle. Instead of the traditional topping, drizzle chocolate sauce on the cake for an amazing finish and chocolate flavor.
  • Apple Cider Glaze. Another tasty option for topping is apple cider glaze. Combine ¼ cup apple cider, 1 tablespoon melted butter and a cup of powdered sugar together. Drizzle all over the Cider Glazed Apple cake for even more apple flavor.

Step by step instructions

  • Step 1. Preheat the oven and prepare the pan. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and grease with baking spray and flour a bundt pan. I suggest using a 10-cup bundt pan instead of a 12-cup bundt pan.

Step 2. In a large bowl, combine the cake mix, apple cider, applesauce and eggs. You can use a handheld mixer or stand mixer.

Step 3. Then mix in the ground cinnamon, brown sugar and vanilla extract into the flour mixture.

Step 4. Pour the batter into the bundt pan.

Step 5. Gently tap the bundt pan on the countertop to even out the cake batter. This will help to remove any air bubbles from the batter.

Step 6. Bake the cake in the center rack in the oven for 40-45 minutes. A toothpick inserted into the center of the cake should come out clean.

Step 7. Remove the cake from the pan. Then carefully turn the bundt pan over onto the cooling rack to cool completely.

Step 8. Make the topping. In a small bowl, whisk together the cinnamon and sugar.

Step 9. Brush the melted butter on top of the cake with a pastry brush. Make sure to get all the nooks. Then immediately top with the cinnamon and sugar mixture.

Toppings

  • Ice Cream. Top each slice of cake with a scoop of No Churn Vanilla Ice Cream.

Pro Tips

  • Applying Butter and topping. Make sure to spread the butter all over the cake. Then top with the cinnamon sugar mixture right away so it adheres to the cake. The sides might be tricky but if you press into the cake it will stick.
  • Allow the cake to cool completely. Make sure to give the cake time to cool before adding the topping.
  • Don’t overmix the batter. Stir everything until just combined. Overmixing the batter will make the cake dense instead of light and fluffy.

Instructions

For the Cake:

  • Then carefully turn the bundt pan over onto the rack to cool completely.

  • In a small bowl, mix together the cinnamon and sugar until combined.
  • Brush the melted butter on top of the cake with a pastry brush.  Then immediately top with the cinnamon and sugar mixture.  Make sure to get the sides of the cake as well!
