Why do my Rice Krispie Bars get Hard?

When melting the butter and marshmallows, we recommend melting the marshmallow mixture slowly in the microwave. Heating this gooey marshmallows to long in the microwave without stirring in-between can cause the mixture to get hard.

Store any leftover Rice Krispie treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week. If on a cookie tray cover with plastic wrap but do not place in the fridge. The cereal mixture will harden.

How to Freeze?

I do not recommend freezing this recipe. It will change the texture of the final product and cause it to harden.

How Long will Rice Krispie Treats last?

If you store the rice krispie treats in a container, they will last about 3-4 days. Ours never last that long though because we eat them so fast. Also, use wax paper in between the treats to keep them from sticking.
