Ingredients

- Mini marshmallows. I think mini marshmallows are the perfect size and melt easily.
- Butter. Real butter is best and has a great flavor. I like to use unsalted butter.
- Lucky charms cereal. Make sure the cereal is fresh and not stale, or the bars won’t taste the same.

Variations
- Chocolate. Substitute Chocolate Lucky Charms in this recipe for a decadent chocolate treat.
- Microwave. Instead of the stove stop, you can microwave this recipe. Melt the butter in a microwave safe bowl in 30 second intervals until melted. Then make the recipe as normal.
- Green Candy Coating. Melt green candy melts and drizzle on top for an extra festive treat. Another idea would be to dip one end in the melted candy coating.
- Sprinkles. Once you spread the mixture into the pan, sprinkle rainbow sprinkles on top. Gently press them into the mixture to make sure they stick. Do not wait too long to add these or they won’t adhere once the mixture is dry.
- Salt. A pinch of salt can help reduce the sweetness in this recipe.
- White Chocolate Drizzle. Melt white chocolate and drizzle on top of the bars.
- Vanilla Extract. Add 1 teaspoon of vanilla to the marshmallow and butter mixture before adding to the cereal mixture.
How to Make Lucky Charms Treats
- Step 1. Melt the butter. In a large pot or large saucepan, melt butter over low heat. Be careful to not burn the butter and melt on low heat to medium heat but not high. You can also melt in the microwave using a large bowl.

Step 2. Next, add the marshmallows and butter. Stir constantly until it has melted completely.

Step 3. Stir the lucky charms into the melted marshmallow mixture.

Step 4. Prepare the pan with non-stick spray. Pour the mixture into the pan and spread out with a spatula. Spray a piece of parchment paper with a non-stick spray and use the paper to press the mixture into the pan.

Step 5. Let the mixture cool at room temperature or until hardened. Then cut the Lucky Charms Rice Krispie treats into the perfect sized pieces.
Storage
Do not store these treats in the refrigerator or it will cause them to dry out. Store the leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
We recommend placing parchment paper in between the bars so they don’t stick. If putting this in lunchboxes, you can use ziplock bags to make individual servings.
You can also freeze these for later. Wrap in wax paper and place inside a freezer bag for easy grab and go snacks later.
They can be frozen up to 3 months. The texture will change slightly from being in the freezer but they will still be delicious.
Expert Tips
- Prepare the baking dish. Don’t forget to spray the pan with non stick cooking spray. You can also line the pan with parchment paper if desired. The mixture is sticky so it is necessary to coat the pan.
- Don’t overcook the marshmallows. They should be cooked until just melted. Overcooking the marshmallows will result in sticky bars that don’t set properly.
- Combine the mixture quickly. The cereal needs to be combined quickly with the melted butter and marshmallows. The marshmallows can harden quickly so it is necessary to combine right away.
- Cutting the bars. You can cut these into any size you prefer. You might want to make them smaller if serving for a party or younger children.
