- Chocolate Melting Wafers. Melting wafers are easy to dip and look smooth.
Find the complete ingredient list at the bottom of the page.
Variations and Substitutions
- Chocolate. Substitute dark chocolate chips or white chocolate chips in this recipe.
- Sprinkles. Top the candy with sprinkles before it sets.
Step by Step Instructions
- Step 1. Prepare the baking dish. Line an 8X8 baking dish with parchment paper and set aside.
Step 2. Next, place the chocolate chips in a large mixing bowl. Heat in intervals so it does not burn in the microwave. I usually set it for 20 seconds, stir, and then continue to heat in 15 second intervals. Continue until the chocolate chips are fully melted.
Step 3. Once melted, add the Cool Whip into the melted chocolate chips. Fold this together using a rubber spatula. The mixture will be thick, but this is normal.
Step 4. Spread the mixture into the 8-inch square baking dish.
Step 5. Next, freeze the mixture for 30 minutes until solid.
Step 6. Remove from the pan and cut into about 36 square pieces.
Step 7. Then place on a baking sheet lined with wax paper. Freeze for 30 more minutes.
Step 8. Get out a small bowl and melt the chocolate wafers based on the package instructions. Then remove the candy from the freezer. Dip into the melted chocolate. I used 2 forks. Then gently tap the forks to knock off any excess chocolate.
Step 9. After it’s coated, place the candy back on the baking sheet to set. Then put the baking sheet back into the freezer for 20-30 minutes until the chocolate is fully set .
Storage
Place the candy inside an airtight container or freezer bag. Store leftover candies in the freezer until ready to enjoy!
Pro Tips
- Use good quality chocolate. Since there are only 3 ingredients, it makes a big difference using good chocolate. I prefer Ghirardelli chocolate.
- Fold until combined. Make sure all of the ingredients are well combined before freezing.
- Freeze until set. It is important to allow the candy time to freeze before dipping in the chocolate.
FAQS
I do not recommend using homemade whipped cream in this recipe. Cool Whip is stabilized and will give the candy the correct texture.
Yes, feel free to use white chocolate, dark chocolate, semi-sweet or anything you prefer.
It lasts up to 30 days in the freezer if stored properly.
