Variations and Additions

  • Heart Sprinkles. You can add red heart sprinkles on top or substitute the red hearts for the red M&M candies.
  • Green Food Coloring. You can adjust the green color to the shade you prefer.
  • Homemade Brownies. You can use homemade brownies if you prefer in this recipe. We like the ease of the box mix but you can use what you like.
  • Topping. Instead of the ganache topping, spread the brownies with frosting. You can dye white frosting green and spread the green frosting on the brownies. It will have a different flavor but still makes another fun option to try.

Expert Tips

  • Baking Pan. This recipe is best suited for a 9×13 dish.
  • Brownie Mix. Make sure to buy a mix that is for a 9×13 pan.
  • Brownie varieties. We suggest a classic brownie mix for this recipe without any additional toppings or add ins.
  • Allow to cool. The brownies need to cool completely before adding the topping.
  • Chop the Oreo cookies and don’t crush them. The appearance of the cookies will look better if you chop them. You can freeze them before chopping to make this super easy.
  • Line the baking dish. Save yourself some time and line the dish with parchment paper. Not only will the brownies turn out better but clean up is easier too.
  • Chill before cutting. The brownies will be hard to cut into clean slices until it sets. It is important to allow the brownies to chill before cutting.
  • Good ingredients. Use high quality ingredients. We like Ghirardelli chocolate.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to store?

Refrigerate the leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days.  I suggest separating the layers with parchment paper so they won’t stick to each other.

Can you freeze these holiday brownies?

Yes, this recipe is freezer friendly. Allow the brownies to cool completely.
Wrap the brownies in plastic wrap and place inside a freezer container. Freeze the brownies up to 2 months.
When ready to serve, thaw at room temperature.

It is chocolate and heavy cream whipped together. This recipe blends these ingredients together with peppermint extract for a delicious topping.
