Ingredients

Ingredients for Grinch Oreos.
  • Oreo Cookies. You can use any kind or flavor. Red velvet oreos are really pretty.
  • Green Candy Melts. These melt really smooth, but you can also use white chocolate chips with green food coloring.
  • Coconut Oil. This helps to thin the coating.
  • Red Heart Sprinkles. You can also use red candy hearts.

How to Make Grinch Oreo Cookies

Step 1. Prepare the pan. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or wax paper.

Melted candy in bowl.

Step 2. Melt the candy coating. Place the green candy melt pieces in coconut oil in a microwave safe bowl. Heat in 30 second intervals, stirring after each interval until fully melted. Be careful not to overheat.

Step 3. Coat the Oreo Cookies. Then place an Oreo in the melted candy and use a fork to remove the Oreo carefully.

Step 4. Remove any excess coating. While the Oreo is on the fork, gently tap the fork against the side of the bowl. This will remove any excess chocolate from the Oreo.

Step 5. Arrange on a lined sheet pan. Then place the Oreos on the baking sheet and top each Oreo with a Heart sprinkle.

Step 6. Allow to set. Then let them sit at room temperature for approximately 1 hour.

Step 7. Add the candy melts to a piping bag. Place the remaining candy melts in a piping bag or ziplock bag. You may need to reheat the leftover candy melts if they have solidified.  Cut a small corner off the end of the bag.

Step 8. Decorate the top with drizzled candy melts. Drizzle the candy melts onto the Oreos to decorate them.  Let sit for 20-30 minutes until dry.

Step 9. Serve and enjoy. Then the Oreos are ready to serve and enjoy!

Storage

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3-4 weeks.  Separate the layers of cookies with parchment paper so they don’t stick together.

Can You Freeze?

Yes, the cookies can be frozen. Allow to completely dry and then place inside a freezer storage container.

Place wax paper between the layers and make sure the lid is secure. Freeze the cookies up to 3 months. Allow to thaw overnight in the fridge when ready to enjoy.

Variations

  • Oreo Flavors. We used classic Oreo Cookies but you can use Golden Oreos, Mint Oreos or any flavor you like.
  • Grinch Oreo Pops. Place a lollipop stick in the cookies before dipping to make Oreo Pops. Allow to dry and cover in cellophane and tie with ribbon. It is a great party favor during the holiday season or treat to hand out to friends and neighbors.
  • White Chocolate. You can use melted chocolate instead of candy coating in this recipe. Then use food coloring to dye it green. We like candy melts because it is so smooth but chocolate is another option.
  • Oreo Balls. Make Grinch Oreo Balls by combining a block of cream cheese with crushed oreo cookies using a food processor. Oreo Cookie Balls are just as easy and then dip in green candy coating.
  • Red Sprinkles. If you don’t have any heart sprinkles, you can substitute red sprinkles instead.

Pro Tips

  • Melt the candy coating in intervals. You do not want to burn the chocolate. Melt in 30 second intervals and stir after each one.
  • Remove any excess coating from cookies. Gently tap the fork on the side of the bowl to remove any extra coating when dipping.
  • Allow to set before storing. The cookies should be completely set before storing so they don’t stick to each other.
  • Piping the drizzle. If you do not have a piping bag to drizzle the coating, use a ziplock bag. Place the melted candy coating inside and cut off the corner. Drizzle the coating back and forth until the top is decorated.
  • Top with heart before the coating dries. Make sure that you top the cookies with a heart before the coating sets. Otherwise, it will not adhere securely to the cookies.
  • Line the pan. The pan is much easier to clean if lined with wax paper before placing the cookies. this also helps the cookies to not stick.

This simple recipe is a fun one to make with kids. I love that you don’t have to heat the oven and how fast it comes together.

Make it a new family tradition and create this year after year. They are the absolute perfect treat to make for Christmas parties or to enjoy while watching the Grinch.
