Some ides include: chocolate, lemon or strawberry. Funfetti cake mix would be fun for a birthday party or celebration. - Chocolate drizzle. To make this recipe even more decadent, melt chocolate and drizzle on top before it sets. You can use white chocolate or milk chocolate. The pretty swirls will look fabulous on the finished product.

- Nuts. Pecans or Walnuts taste great in this mixture. You can add as little or as much as you prefer.
How to make red velvet popcorn

Step 1. Prepare the cake and bake according to the package instructions.

Step 2. Allow to cool and crumble about ⅓ of the cake.

Step 3. Place the white chocolate chips to a microwave safe bowl. Microwave it in 30 second intervals, stirring after each interval until almost melted. Then stir in the vegetable oil.

Step 4. Next, spread the popcorn out onto 2 baking sheets lined with parchment paper. Drizzle the white chocolate over the popcorn and gently toss the popcorn to coat it with the white chocolate.

Step 5. Evenly sprinkle the red velvet crumbs on top of the popcorn. Carefully toss until the popcorn is coated with the cake crumbs.

Step 6. Allow the chocolate to set. Then break apart the popcorn. Then it’s ready to serve in a large bowl and enjoy!
Red Velvet Popcorn tips
- Use a wax paper lined baking sheet. The mixture is sticky until it sets. Line the baking sheet with wax paper to make cleanup much easier.
- Red Velvet Cake. You can modify this amount depending on how much red velvet flavor you desire.
- Allow to set before storing. The popcorn should be completely dry before breaking into pieces and storing.
- Popcorn. Plain or kettle style popcorn is best in this recipe. I do not recommend using butter flavored popcorn.
- Perfect for gifts or party favors. This is a gorgeous and delicious treat to give as gifts or favors at parties. Place in a cellphone bag and tie with a pretty ribbon.
- Don’t burn the chocolate. It is important that you melt the chocolate in intervals and not all at once. This will prevent it from burning. Make sure to stir it thoroughly after each interval.
- Crumble the cake in small pieces. Try to crumble the cake into fine pieces so it is easier to coat the popcorn.
Storage
Store the leftover popcorn in a large airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week.
