  • Cinnamon Chips. Add a handful of cinnamon chips into the batter for more cinnamon flavor.
  • Butterscotch Chips. You will love snickerdoodle flavor combined with butterscotch. I love to toss in a cup into the batter.
  • White Chocolate Chips. This is another great option to pair with the batter.

Step by step instructions

  • Step 1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Spray a 5×9 loaf pan with cooking spray.

Step 2. Combine the butter, sugar and brown sugar in a large bowl. You can use a hand held mixer or stand mixer.

Step 3. Next, add the eggs, milk, sour cream and vanilla to the bowl. Combine the wet ingredients until smooth.

Step 4. Add the flour mixture to the bowl. Stir in the dry ingredients by hand until just combined. Do not overmix.

Step 5. Get out a separate small bowl. Combine the cinnamon sugar swirl ingredients together with a fork.

Step 6. Spoon batter into the loaf pan. Then sprinkle a portion of the cinnamon swirl mixture on top of the batter.

Step 7. Continue this process until all of the batter and swirl mixture have been added.

Step 8. Bake the bread for 50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. The cinnamon sugar topping will crack as it bakes but that is normal!

How to store the leftovers?

Store the leftovers in an airtight container or bag at room temperature for up to 3-4 days.  

Can you freeze the bread?

Absolutely! Wrap in parchment paper and again in plastic wrap and foil. Freeze up to 3 months. Take out of the freezer when ready to serve and allow to thaw in the fridge.

Can you use mini loaf pans?

Yes, this recipe is perfect to make smaller loaves. I love to do this for gifting. Juts make sure to reduce the baking time for the smaller mini loaves.

Pro Tips

  • Layer the ingredients. Make sure to layer the batter and cinnamon in the loaf pan. If you stir it together, you will not have that pretty swirl.
  • Don’t overfill the pan. The bread needs room to rise as it bakes, and you do not want it to overflow.
  • Fresh baking powder. Make sure the baking powder is not expired or it will not cook properly.
  • Don’t overmix the batter. Stir everything until just combined.

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Spray a 5×9 loaf pan with cooking spray.
  • Cream together the butter, sugar and brown sugar with a hand held mixer or stand up mixer until smooth.
  • Add in the eggs, milk, sour cream and vanilla extract.  Mix until combined.
  • Then stir in the flour, baking soda and salt by hand until just combined.
  • In a separate small bowl, stir together the cinnamon swirl ingredients with a fork.
  • Pour approximately ⅓ of the batter into the loaf pan.  Sprinkle ⅓ of the cinnamon swirl mixture on top.  Continue this process until all the batter and cinnamon swirl mixture are used.
  • Bake for 50-55 minutes until a toothpick inserted into the center of the bread comes out clean.
  • Let the bread cool for 10-15 minutes on a wire rack.  Then carefully remove the bread from the pan and cool completely.
  • Then the bread is ready to slice, serve and enjoy!
