Substitutions and Additions

  • Add peanut butter. Stir in peanut butter for a rich, creamy microwave Peanut Butter Fudge.
  • Add nuts. Pecans, walnuts, or your favorite chopped nuts add extra texture and flavor.
  • Top with caramel. Drizzle salted caramel over the fudge for a sweet and salty treat.
  • Add candy canes. Crushed candy canes make the fudge festive and add a peppermint flavor.

How To Make Christmas Fudge

Baking dish lined with parchment paper.

Step 1. First, line an 8 X 8-inch square baking pan with foil or parchment paper. Then spray it with cooking spray and this will make it very easy to remove the fudge. It will also help with clean up.

Bowl with chocolate.

Step 2. Second, get out a large microwave-safe bowl and put the chocolate chips inside it. Then melt the chocolate in 30 second increments stirring constantly after each interval. Use medium heat if your microwave has a setting.

Bowl with melted chocolate being stirred.

Step 3. Continue to heat until the chocolate is melted. Be careful not to overcook the white chocolate.

Vanilla frosting combined together.

Step 4. Stir in the vanilla frosting.

Mixture separated in 3 bowls.

Step 5. Once everything is combined, separate the fudge mixture evenly between 3 bowls.

Bowls with food coloring in red and green.

Step 6. You will need to leave one bowl white and then stir in the green and red food coloring into the other 2 bowls.

Spoonfuls of mixture added to pan.

Step 7. Drop a spoonful of each color into the square pan using a random pattern.

All of the mixture in the pan.

Step 8. Continue until all of the different colors have been distributed.

Mixture swirled with a knife.

Step 9. Once all of the fudge is in the prepared pan, use a knife to create a swirl pattern. I normally go back and forth and it creates a gorgeous pattern.

Step 10. Allow the fudge to set in the fridge for 30 minutes to 1 hour. Then slice and enjoy.

Pro Tips

  • Line the baking dish. Use parchment paper to make removing the fudge easier and simplify cleanup.
  • Melt chocolate slowly. Heat in short intervals, about 20–30 seconds at a time, and stir between intervals to prevent burning.
  • Separate colors. If using multiple food colorings, mix each color in its own bowl to maintain vibrant shades.
  • Swirl carefully. Gently swirl the colored fudge to create a marbled effect without overmixing, so each color remains distinct.
  • Use a toothpick or skewer. For precise swirls, drag a toothpick or skewer lightly through the fudge to create patterns.
  • Work quickly. Fudge can begin to set as it cools, so swirl the colors while the fudge is still soft.
  • Tap the pan. Gently tap the baking dish on the counter to remove air bubbles and smooth the surface before the fudge sets.
  • Chill properly. Refrigerate the fudge for at least 2–3 hours to ensure it sets fully before cutting.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to store this fudge?

Now, this fudge goes pretty quickly because everyone loves it so much.

However, you can store fudge in an airtight container with lid to keep it fresh. I suggest putting wax paper in between the layers of fudge.

It is best stored at room temperature. The fudge will last up to 7 days at room temperature.

Can you freeze fudge?

Separate the fudge with wax paper inside an airtight container. Place in the freezer up to 3 months.
