Ingredients

  • Chex Cereal. You can use rice or corn Chex.
  • Peanut Butter. I like to use creamy peanut butter. The smooth peanut butter blends much better with the other ingredients.
  • Green Candy Melts. Find this in the baking section.
  • Powdered Sugar. If it is lumpy, sift before using.
  • Red M&Ms. This completes the look on this tasty treat.
  • Gallon Ziplock Bag. It’s easier to combine the cereal pieces and mixture using a bag.

Scroll to the bottom of the page for the complete ingredients list.

Variations

  • Sprinkles. While optional, sprinkles are always a fun idea. Red and green would be pretty or just add a few red heart sprinkles.
  • Nuts. Try adding pecans or walnuts for a change.
  • Seasonal. Use red and green M&M candies and you now have Christmas Puppy Chow. We also make Valentine’s Day Puppy Chow Recipe.
  • Other colors. Change the colors to match baby showers, birthday parties, Game Day, and more. The ideas are endless.
  • Topping. Drizzle with white chocolate or other chocolate chips with peanut butter. The peanut butter and chocolate flavors make the best puppy chow.

Pro Tips

  • Use an airtight container for storage. Store in an airtight container for up to a week.
  • Good quality candy melts. We used these green candy melts and the recipe turned out so pretty and yummy too. You can certainly use any brand, but we used Wiltons.
  • Prepare the baking sheet. Don’t forget to use parchment paper on the cookie sheet. This will really help with clean up so don’t skip this step!
  • Allow to cool before adding candy. If you add the M&M’s too soon, they will melt. Make sure to let the mixture cool.

Storage

Store in an airtight container for up to a week at room temperature and enjoy. Ours never lasts that long though because we eat it quickly. We really love it.
