Yes, this is very easy to freeze making it convenient to make ahead for parties or holidays.
Simply place the mixture inside an airtight container and freeze up to 3 months. Thaw at room temperature or eat directly from the freezer. Either way, it is so delicious.
Pro Tips
- Place the cereal into a large bowl to mix the ingredients together. You need plenty of room to combine everything.
- Spread the Puppy Chow on a baking sheet so it can cool before storing. If you allow the puppy chow to cool in a single layer, it will not stick together.
- Gently stir the ingredients together to keep the cereal intact.
- Make sure to use the correct cups of cereal and correct cups peanut butter. You do not want the mixture too dry or overly moist.
- Use a microwave-safe bowl to melt the chocolate in 30-second increments.
- Thoroughly coat the cereal. I like to use a ziplock bag to make the best puppy chow recipe. It’s easy to shake it all together once you pour it in.
- Creamy peanut butter is best. I like Skippy or Jiff. Natural peanut butter is not recommended.
- Use good quality ingredients. Whether you use semi-sweet chocolate chips, dark chocolate or other chocolate, use a good quality chocolate. Also, use pure vanilla extract.
- Be careful of mix-ins if you have dietary restrictions and need the recipe to be gluten-free.
