Storage

Place the cereal mixture inside a tight-fitting container. Store inside an airtight container to ensure it stays fresh.

It can be left at room temperature for a couple of days. However, it will last up to a week if refrigerated.

Can You Freeze?

Yes, this is very easy to freeze making it convenient to make ahead for parties or holidays.

Simply place the mixture inside an airtight container and freeze up to 3 months. Thaw at room temperature or eat directly from the freezer. Either way, it is so delicious.

Pro Tips

  • Place the cereal into a large bowl to mix the ingredients together. You need plenty of room to combine everything.
  • Spread the Puppy Chow on a baking sheet so it can cool before storing. If you allow the puppy chow to cool in a single layer, it will not stick together.
  • Gently stir the ingredients together to keep the cereal intact.
  • Make sure to use the correct cups of cereal and correct cups peanut butter. You do not want the mixture too dry or overly moist.
  • Use a microwave-safe bowl to melt the chocolate in 30-second increments.
  • Thoroughly coat the cereal. I like to use a ziplock bag to make the best puppy chow recipe. It’s easy to shake it all together once you pour it in.
  • Creamy peanut butter is best. I like Skippy or Jiff. Natural peanut butter is not recommended.
  • Use good quality ingredients. Whether you use semi-sweet chocolate chips, dark chocolate or other chocolate, use a good quality chocolate. Also, use pure vanilla extract.
  • Be careful of mix-ins if you have dietary restrictions and need the recipe to be gluten-free.
