Ingredients

Ingredients for ice cream - sweetened condensed milk, vanilla, heavy whipping cream, Oreo cookies.
  • Sweetened condensed milk. This gives the ice cream its sweetness.
  • Vanilla Extract. Pure vanilla is best.
  • Heavy whipping cream. Make sure it is cold.
  • Oreo Cookies. I prefer regular and not double stuffed Oreo cookies.

Find the complete ingredients at the bottom.

Variations and Additions

  • Ice cream sandwiches with cookies. Use chocolate chip cookies and put a scoop of cookies and cream ice cream in the middle of two cookies. Freeze and enjoy a chocolate sandwich later!
  • Ice cream sundae bar Use this yummy ice cream for a delicious sundae bar. Add your favorite toppings and you have a really fun treat.

How to Make Cookies And Cream Ice Cream

Ziploc bag with cookies being crushed.

Step 1. First, you need to crush the Oreo cookies. You do not want the cookies finely crushed so I would not use a food processor. Just place the Oreo Cookies in a large ziplock bag and seal tightly.  Take a wooden spoon or rolling pin and crush the cookies.

Mixing bowl with sweetened condensed milk and vanilla.

Step 2. Next, get a large bowl and mix together the sweetened condensed milk and vanilla extract.

Separate bowl with whipping cream.

Step 3. Get out a separate bowl. Add the heavy whipping cream. Use a stand mixer or hand mixer to beat until it starts to form stiff peaks. It normally only takes 2 to 3 minutes.

Sweetened condensed milk added to whipped cream.

Step 4. Next, add the whipped cream carefully to the sweetened condensed milk mixture. Be careful not to over-mix.

Step 5. Finally, add the crushed cookies by folding them in by hand.

Mixture in loaf pan ready for the freezer.

Step 6. Transfer ice cream into a pan. I used a 9-inch loaf pan and it worked perfectly. Cover with plastic wrap and freeze for at least 6 hours but I prefer overnight. Serve with Ice Cream Sundae Toppings.

Storage

Store the ice cream inside a freezer-safe container. I like to also place a layer of wax paper directly on the ice cream to prevent ice crystals from forming.

The ice cream will keep up to a month.

Expert Tips

  • Make this the day before you plan to eat it. This will allow plenty of time for it to reach the desired consistency.
  • This cookies and cream ice cream will last up to 3 months stored in the freezer. We love it so ours is usually gone much quicker.
  • Mixer – I really like my kitchen aid stand mixer but a hand mixer is great too for this ice cream recipe.
  • Fold the cookies in by hand. It’s important to combine this step by hand and not with an electric mixer.
  • Don’t substitute the sweetened condensed milk. Whole milk will not produce the same texture and consistency.
