How to Make Unicorn Fudge

  • Step 1 – Prepare the pan. Line an 8X8 baking pan with foil or line the pan parchment paper and spray with a non-stick cooking spray for easy removal of the fudge.
Bowl with melted white chocolate.

Step 2. Melt the chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in 30 second increments and stir between each one. Heat until the chocolate is completely melted.

Step 3. Stir in the vanilla frosting.

Separate bowls with food coloring added to fudge mixture.

Step 4. Then separate the mixture evenly into 3 bowls. Stir in the pink food coloring, purple food coloring and blue food colouring into each one of the bowls until each bowl is your desired shade.

Fudge dolloped into pan alternating colors.

Step 5. Next, drop a spoonful of each color into the 8X8 pan using a random pattern.

Fudge swirled back and forth to create a pattern.

Step 6. Swirl the fudge with a knife. Run it through the fudge to create a swirl pattern. Don’t swirl excessively so that you still have the contrast of the colors.

Storage

Store leftover unicorn fudge in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 month. For longer storage, you can freeze it for 3 to 4 months. If frozen, let the fudge thaw at room temperature before serving for the best texture.

When freezing, use a freezer-safe container or resealable bag, and place wax paper between layers to prevent the pieces from sticking together.

Tips for Making the Perfect Unicorn Fudge

  • Use a Sharp Knife: For clean cuts, use a sharp knife and wipe it between slices. You can also warm the blade slightly for even smoother cuts.
  • Melt Chocolate Slowly: Always melt white chocolate in short intervals (15–30 seconds) in the microwave, stirring between each. Overheating can cause it to seize or burn, which ruins the texture.
  • Swirl Gently: Use a toothpick or butter knife to swirl the colored fudge layers. Don’t overdo it. Too much swirling will blend the colors and lose that distinct “unicorn” look.
  • Add Toppings Quickly: Sprinkle on marshmallows, sprinkles, or decorations while the fudge is still soft. Gently press them in to help them stick before the fudge begins to set.
  • Line Your Pan: Use parchment paper or foil to line your pan, leaving overhang on the sides. This makes cleanup easier and allows you to lift the fudge out cleanly for slicing.
  • Work Quickly: Once the chocolate and frosting are mixed, the fudge begins to firm up fast. Have your colors, toppings, and tools ready to go before combining.
  • Chill to Set: Refrigerate the fudge for at least 2-3 hours, or until fully firm, before slicing.
