Why This Recipe Works
It is simple to prepare and ready in just minutes. Enjoy tender and flavor packed apples any day of the week.
I have been making these for years. The kids love them. Air Fryer Apples make a great snack or dessert.

Ingredients
- Sweet Apples. Honeycrisp or Gala work great.
- Butter. Melted.
- Maple Syrup. Use pure maple syrup.
- Brown Sugar. The Best Brown Sugar Substitutes
Get the complete list of ingredients at the bottom of the page.
Variations
- Coconut Oil. Substitute this for the butter in the recipe.
- Coconut Sugar. Use coconut sugar instead of brown sugar.
- Baked. The oven can be used instead of air fryer. Bake at 375 degrees for 25 minutes.
- Combine apple varieties. Try combining a tart apple such as Granny Smith with a sweeter apple like Gala. The combination is delicious.
- Spicy. If you like heat, you can add red pepper flakes to the cinnamon sugar mixture before coating the apples.
- Peeling. You do not have to peel the apples. However, we prefer them without and picky children often do as well.
- Spices. Feel free to change the flavors of these slice apples. Top with apple pie spice or drizzle with caramel sauce for delicious flavor.
How to Make Air Fried Apples

Step 1. Prepare the apples. Peel, core and slice the apples.

Step 2. Mix everything together. Place the apples and other ingredients in a large bowl. Toss to coat the apples well.

Step 3. Put the apples in the air fryer. Make sure the apple chips are placed in a single layer. The air fryer needs to be set at 400 degrees. They will take about 13 to 16 minutes or until the apples are soft.

Step 4. Remove the apples from the air fryer. Let them sit for a few minutes and the cinnamon sugar mixture will thicken as they sit. Serve and enjoy.
Storage
Store the leftover apples in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They will last up to 5 days.
When ready to enjoy, reheat in the microwave for 30 seconds and stir. Continue to cook in 30 minute intervals until heated through.
How to Freeze?
You can freeze the apples up to 2 months. Place them inside a freezer container or bag. Once you thaw and reheat, more melted butter can be added if needed based on preference.
Serving Suggestions
- Ice Cream Topping. We love to serve the apples warm over No Churn Vanilla Ice Cream.
- French Toast. Skip the syrup and add apples instead. Then sprinkle with powdered sugar.
- Topping for Waffles and Pancakes. The kids will think you are fancy when you add these decadent apples.
- Easy Side dish recipe. They also make a great side for pork chops, fried chicken and more.
- Snack. Serve these in a bowl for the best snack everyone will enjoy.
Pro Tips
- Single layer. The apple slices need to be in a single layer in the air fryer basket while cooking.
- Even apple slices. Try to cut the apples the same size. This will help them to cook as evenly as possible. Cut the apples with a paring knife for best results.
- Cut apples right before cooking. This will prevent them from browning prior to air frying.
- Do not overcook the apples. You do not want them to be mushy.
- Air fryer cooking times vary. Individual air fryers often cook differently. I recommend checking on the apples often to make sure that you are not overcooking them.
- You can add more butter. If you prefer the apples to have more sauce, add 2 tablespoons additional melted butter.
- Best types of apples. It is best to use firm apples when making fried apples. We prefer to use pink lady, Honey Crisp Apples, Gala, Golden Delicious or Fuji. If you like a more tart apple, try using Granny Smith or Braeburn, jonagold apples. This recipe is so delicious with many different types of apples. You can easily make this recipe with pears.
