Can you make ahead of time?

You can make this salad ahead of time. However, we recommend waiting to mix in the marshmallows until you are ready to serve. They will become softer as they sit.

If you do not mind them getting soft, then you do not need to wait to add them. We just prefer ours still intact.

Variations:

  • Pudding Mix. Add dry instant pudding mix to change the flavor. French Vanilla and Cheesecake blend perfectly with these flavors.
  • Cream Cheese. Blend softened cream cheese with the whipped cream. Combine until the texture is smooth and creamy. Then continue the recipe as normal.
  • Fruit Cocktail. Add a can of drained fruit cocktail to the recipe. The extra fruit looks and tastes great.
  • Cherries on top. Garnish the serving bowl with a dollop of cherry pie filling in the middle. Another idea is to place a few maraschino cherries on top.
  • Coconut. Shredded coconut is delicious in this recipe. Add a handful of coconut when you are folding in the marshmallows.
  • Nuts. Chopped walnuts or pecans add a little bit of crunch and a ton of flavor.
  • Strawberry Pie Filling. This will still result in the pretty pink color.
  • Sour Cream. This ingredient gives the salad a tangy flavor when added.
  • Cottage Cheese. Add some protein to this recipe with cottage cheese. You might be surprised but it is really delicious in fruit salad.

Tips for the best Cherry fluff:

  • Drain the pineapple really well. You do not want any excess liquid in the recipe. It will make it runny and change the texture of the whipped cream.
  • It is best refrigerated before serving. This will allow ample time for the flavors to blend together.
  • This recipe can easily feed a crowd. Feel free to double this recipe for Cherry Fluff for larger gatherings if needed.
