How to Choose the Best Strawberries:

When selecting the right strawberries, I try to buy the ones that are bright red and without bruising. This makes the strawberries flavorful and not mushy.

I like to find larger size strawberries so they are easier to dip into the melted chocolate.

Ingredients:

Strawberries, orange, white, purple, green candy wafers, black gel icing and chocolate chips

How to Make Halloween Chocolate Covered Strawberries:

  • Step 1 – Prepare Strawberries – Rinse strawberries and pat dry making sure there is no moisture.
  • Step 2 – Melt Wafers – Melt wafers in microwave safe bowls according to package directions
  • Step 3 – Line Baking Sheet – Lay out a piece of parchment paper to set dripped berries
  • Step 4 – Make the Mummies – Dip berry in melted white wafers. Place on parchment paper and allow chocolate to set. 
  • Step 5 – Fill Piping Bag – Once the chocolate has set, fill up a piping bag with the same white melted wafers. Then drizzle in straight lines back and forth, across the berry. 
  • Step 6 – Make Face – Allow to dry, then with using the black gel tube. Mark three dots to represent the eyes and mouth.
  • Step 7 – Make the Frankenstein’s – Dip berry in melted green wafers. 
  • Step 8 – Add Face – Place strawberry on parchment paper. Then quickly add one mini milk chocolate chip to either side of the berry for the bolts. Once the chocolate has set, add eyes, mouth, and forehead scar using a black gel icing tube.
  • Step 9 – Make the Pumpkins – Dip berry in melted orange wafers. Place on parchment paper and allow chocolate to set. 
  • Step 10 – Draw Face – Once the chocolate has set, fill up a piping bag with the same orange melted wafers. Then apply straight lines horizontally. Allow to dry, then with using the black gel tube, add two triangle-shaped eyes and a mouth.
  • Step 11 – Serve – We usually allow the chocolate to set for about 30 minutes. Then they are ready to serve and enjoy.

Can I Use Frozen Strawberries?

This recipe is best to use fresh strawberries. If you try to frozen strawberries they will turn into a mess once they have thawed.

How to Prepare Strawberries:

Once you bring home your fresh strawberries, I like to go head and give them a good wash with water. Then place them on a paper towel lined baking sheet and let them dry.

They need to be completely dry before dipping into the melted chocolate. If you try to dip to early then the chocolate will not stick to the strawberry.

How to Melt Chocolate:

Since this recipe is called for colorful melted chocolate, we used wafers. They will melt just like any chocolate in the microwave, but it is best to heat in 30 second intervals.

We recommend to heat then stir after each time. This allows you to slowly melt the wafers and to closely watch them so they do not burn.

If you prefer you can melt the chocolate in a double boiler instead of a microwave-safe bowl.

Expert Tips:

  • Strawberries – Make sure to wash and dry strawberries before dipping into the melted chocolate.
  • Melting Chocolate – Don’t over melt the chocolate or it will burn and the chocolate will taste burnt.
  • Dipping Strawberries – Follow the recipe on when to add the decorations and went to allow the melted chocolate to harden.
  • Prepare Baking Sheet – Make sure to line the baking sheet with parchment paper or wax paper for easy cleanup. This also helps when serving the strawberries.
  • Toothpicks – You may need to use a toothpick to make the face on these strawberries. They help with making small dots.
  • Candy Eyes – Instead of using black frosting, use candy eyes to decorate the strawberries.
  • Change the Chocolate – Instead of using wafers, you can melted candy melts or melted white chocolate. Then add in food coloring to create the color that you prefer. Candy melts come many different candy colors so it is fun to get creative.

How to Store Leftovers:

Store leftover Halloween Strawberries in the fridge. They are best served within 48 hours of making them. We recommend serving them the same day you make them.

Cover the container with plastic wrap or a lid.
