Ingredients

- Mini Pretzel Twists. We love using miniature pretzel twists for the perfect bite-sized treat, but pretzel sticks work just as well if you prefer a different shape.
- White Candy Melts. Candy melts are great because they melt smoothly and coat the pretzels easily. You can substitute white chocolate chips if desired, though you may need to thin them slightly for easier dipping.
- St. Patrick’s Day Sprinkles. Any festive green sprinkles will work! Try shamrocks, nonpareils, sanding sugar, or a fun holiday sprinkle mix.

Variations
- Try Different Colors. Swap the white candy melts for green candy melts for a bold festive look. You can also melt white chocolate and tint it green with gel food coloring.
- Use Different Pretzel Shapes. Pretzel rods, sticks, squares, or snaps all work beautifully. Each shape gives a slightly different look and is perfect for party trays or treat bags.
- Switch Up the Sprinkles. Use shamrock sprinkles, sanding sugar, nonpareils, or a holiday sprinkle mix. You can even mix textures for extra visual appeal.
- Dip in Milk or Dark Chocolate. For a richer flavor, use milk chocolate or dark chocolate instead of white coating. The sweet and salty combo is always a hit.
- Make Them Gluten-Free. Simply substitute your favorite gluten-free pretzels to make this treat allergy-friendly.
- Create Fun Shapes. Arrange mini pretzel twists together to resemble shamrocks and dip them as one piece. You can also break small pretzel pieces to form a shamrock stem before coating.
- Add Candy Toppings. Press a green chocolate candy or M&M on top before the coating sets. You can also use a small dab of green frosting to attach extra decorations.
Step By Step Instructions
- Step 1. Prepare the cookie sheet. Line it with a piece of parchment paper or wax paper. This will prevent the icing from sticking and help make clean up easy.

Step 2. Melt the candy. Put the candy melts in a small microwave-safe bowl. Then microwave in 30 second intervals so the chocolate does not burn. Stir between each interval until the chocolate is completely melted. It usually takes 3-4 minutes.

Step 3. Dip top of the pretzels into the candy melts. Remove any excess chocolate by tapping the pretzels on the side of the bowl. Continue to do this until all of the excess chocolate falls from the pretzels.

Step 4. Put the pretzels on the sheet pan and add the sprinkles. The sprinkles need to be added before the candy melt hardens or it will not stick.

Step 5. Let the pretzels dry. Normally, this takes about 1 hour at room temperature on the counter. If you need to rush this process, place them in the fridge for 30 minutes.
Storage
Room Temperature: Store the shamrock pretzel bites in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.
Keep Cool & Dry: Place the container in a cool, dry area away from heat and direct sunlight to prevent the chocolate from melting.
Layering Tip:
If stacking, place parchment or wax paper between layers to keep the coating from sticking or smudging.
Avoid Refrigeration:
Refrigerating can cause condensation, which may make the chocolate look streaky or sticky.
Pro Tips
- Melt Chocolate Gradually. Heat candy melts or chocolate in short 20–30 second intervals, stirring between each. This prevents overheating and ensures smooth, creamy chocolate.
- Use Parchment Paper. Line your baking sheet with parchment paper to catch drips and sprinkles. Cleanup is much easier, and pretzels won’t stick to the pan.
- Remove Excess Chocolate. After dipping, gently tap the pretzel on the edge of the bowl to let extra chocolate drip off. This keeps the coating even and prevents it from being too thick.
- Add Sprinkles Immediately. Sprinkles should be added while the chocolate is still wet. Work quickly, especially if making multiple batches, so decorations stick properly.
- Work in Batches. Dip a few pretzels at a time to prevent chocolate from hardening before you’re done decorating.
- Cool Completely Before Storing. Allow pretzels to set at room temperature for at least 30–60 minutes before moving or packaging them.
- Thin Chocolate if Needed. If the chocolate coating is too thick for dipping, stir in a teaspoon of vegetable or coconut oil to make it smoother and easier to coat the pretzels.
- Avoid Overcrowding. Place dipped pretzels with some space between them on the parchment paper to prevent sticking or smudging.
