Variations
- Mix ins. This recipe is easy to customize to your liking. More ideas for mix ins include mini marshmallows, pastel M&M’s, sprinkles and more.
- Candy Spray. We used Wilton Color Mist for the candy spray on the popcorn and it worked great. You can use pink like we did or feel free to use another color. Gold is pretty too for a bit of sparkle.
- Popcorn. I used microwave popcorn for this recipe, but you can definitely use whichever is your favorite! Feel free to purchase a plain bag of popcorn already prepared.
- Sprinkles. Rainbow sprinkles add to the whimsical element of the recipe. You can also use unicorn sprinkles or a combination of both.
- Color variation. You can use any color of candy melts you want. It is easy to match any theme or party decoration.
How to Make Unicorn Popcorn

Step 1. Spread the popcorn on 2 baking sheets. Remove any unpopped kernels.

Step 2. Next, spray the popcorn with the pink food spray. Toss the popcorn and then spray the other side so that it’s fully coated. Allow to dry.

Step 3. Melt the candy coating. Put each of the candy melts in a separate microwave safe bowl. Then add the coconut oil into each bowl. Heat the candy melts in 20 second intervals, stirring after each interval, until each color is fully melted.

Step 4. Drizzle and pour each color of the candy melts over the popcorn for optimum coating. Finally, top with the sprinkles. Allow to dry and break into pieces. Enjoy a bowl of popcorn.

Storage
You can store the leftover popcorn candy at room temperature in an airtight container or bag for up to 1 week. We do not suggest storing longer than a week because the popcorn will soften, and the texture will not be the same.
Pro Tips
- Prepare the baking sheet. Clean up is much easier if you line the baking sheet with parchment paper prior to adding the unicorn popcorn ingredients.
- Candy melts. We prefer to use these instead of white chocolate. You don’t have to add food coloring which can make it grainy and can just choose the desired color.
- Remove kernels. It is so important to remove any un popped kernels from the popcorn. This needs to be done before coating in candy melts so no one hurts their teeth while eating.
- Applying the candy melts. You can easily drizzle this with a spoon or fork all over the popcorn. Another option is to place the candy melts inside a pastry bag and drizzle over the popcorn back and forth.
- Add toppings before drying. Make sure to add sprinkles and any toppings to the popcorn before the candy melts dry. This will ensure it sticks and stays in place.
