A cobbler has a fruit filling and topping. It does not have a bottom crust like a pie does.

Serving suggestions

We like to enjoy the cobbler warm and topped with a scoop of No Churn Vanilla Ice Cream. he ice cream melts into the warm cobbler for a decadent treat.

You can also top with a drizzle of Caramel Sauce and top with Homemade Whipped Cream.

Storage

Refrigerate the leftovers in an airtight container for up to 5 days. You can also leave the cobbler in its original dish. Just be sure to cover it entirely so it is airtight in the refrigerator.

When ready to serve, reheat in the microwave until warmed through. You can also heat in the oven if you want to reheat the entire portion.

Can you freeze apple pie?

We do not suggest freezing this cobbler. The entire dessert with get soggy and gooey as the texture changes. It will turn mushy and not be as appetizing.

It is a quick and easy recipe so it’s best to just whip this up fresh.

Expert Tips

  • Apple Slices. Cut the apples all the same size. They will cook more evenly. Don’t cut the apples too thick in this recipe.
  • Batter. Only combine the batter until just mixed together. Don’t overmix the ingredients.
  • Use multiple types of apples. You can mix and match different variations of apples. We like to use a tart apple combined with a sweeter apple for a really fabulous taste when baking.
  • Adjust the seasoning. If you prefer more cinnamon, feel free to add more. It is easy to adjust this to taste.

Frequently Asked Questions

What type of apples are best to use?

Baking apples are best to use in cobbler. We love using a combination of sweet and tart apples in this recipe for the best flavor.ย

Fuji, Gala apples, Honey crisp and Golden Delicious are all great sweet apple options.ย  Pink Lady, Braeburn, McIntosh and Jonathan apples are all great tart options.ย ย If you prefer a tart apple, try granny smith apples.

Core the apples and then peel the apples. Fresh apples taste amazing in cobbler.

What is the difference between a cobbler and crisp?

They are both very similar with fruit filling. The topping is where it varies as the texture is different.

Cobbler has a biscuit or cake like topping. It is soft and fluffy.

Whereas a crisp has a crunchier topping. Oats, butter, flour and sometimes nuts make the topping.

Why is my cobbler soggy?

This is often the result of storing the cobbler after it’s baked. Cobbler is best enjoyed fresh.

Once covered and stored, the topping can become soggy as it absorbs the moisture.

You can reheat the cobbler in the oven at 350 to help return the topping to its original texture.

Do you have to peel the apples?

You don’t have to peel the apples but we prefer them peeled. The skin makes the apples more tough and harder to chew.

Remove the skin for a tender apple slice and more enjoyable dessert.

How to reheat cobbler?

Reheat in the oven if you want to make the topping crispy again. Heat at 350 degrees for about 10 to 15 minutes or until its heated through.
